Top Ten Questions About Rap Music to Ask Users of TheTopTens

Since this has been done for pop, rock, and even "bad" music, lets do it for rap.

The Top Ten
  1. Do you like rap music?

Nope, can't stand the garbage! That's why I am wasting my time commenting and looking at a list about it.

Yes, but only Nas, 2Pac, Biggie,... And some more.

  2. good kid, m.A.A.d city or To Pimp a Butterfly?

Both of them are superb, but as far as bringing out some real feelings, I'd definitely go with TPAB

Hot take, I honestly think GKMC is better, though I believe both albums are 10/10 albums. GKMC just has a more interesting sound.

  3. Who is your favorite rapper?

Kollegah when it comes to German rappers. His lyrics are so full of complexities that a full analysis would be difficult. First of all his rhyming, which is what he is arguably most famous for. A line with less than three rhyming syllables would sound extremely weird from him, and he usually has way more than that. And the other great thing about him is his word play. He does not simply make puns (which would be awesome on its own), he twists and turns idioms and phrases around, breaking them down to their literal essence, often using homophones nobody would ever think of, and then gives lines highly intelligent double meanings that may take a few seconds to realize.

SpongeBozz is very close to the throne still. His rhyming may be even better and longer (often he uses the same rhyme structure for an entire verse, or in "Zlatan Ibrahimovic" for an entire song) and he has an extremely sick machine gun flow Kollegah does not have (even when Kolle does double timing he doesn't raise his voice much, and his flow is static while Spongy can flow over any beat and adapt different flows). And he has better sung choruses (sometimes, but not always, using autotune). But he doesn't have so much word play, he's more straightforward and focused on the essence of what he wants to say. He has maximum style and technique in a way bigger and more perfect than any other German rapper. But Kollegah is more cleverly lyrical, and has a deeper understanding of the German language. Also, as I write this SpongeBozz's discography consists of 2 studio albums (one being a double disc 115 minute album) and several tracks recorded in internet rap battle tournaments, while Kollegah has over 10 albums and mixtapes, plus worked on collaboration projects. For the throne, Sponge still needs a bit more material.... read more

  4. 2Pac or The Notorious B.I.G?

2Pac's music had a bigger impact and has more substance, but Biggie is the far better lyricist and is a more entertaining MC to listen to. I would've once said "2Pac by far", but I've been listening to much more Biggie as of late honestly.

I actually like Biggie more, I mean his flow is wicked. I can't argue, though, that Pac had better lyricism.

Well, biggie has a better flow, but Pac is a better lyricist

  5. Illmatic or The Marshall Mathers LP?

They both are the best rap albums of all time, but I'll have to say The Marshall Mathers LP, since it has a mix of meaningful and funny songs

PROBABLY THE Marshall Mathers LP. I prefer the 2nd one. Not such a big Nas fan.

  6. Are there rappers who still produce good music?

Very few, but they don't get any attention from the mainstream, like Don Trip for example.

Not a lot of them but there's a few of them.

  7. Lose Yourself or Changes?

My favorite song is lose yourself then changes

Lose Yourself. Both of them are good.

  8. Mobb Deep or OutKast?

  9. What was your first impression of rap?

My story with rap is strange; at first, because even though I grew up in a bad area in Scotland, rap was looked down on in my culture, so I looked down on it myself. One day I decided that I wasn't going to judge it just by misconceptions in my culture that others had, so I threw myself in. Firstly I discovered eminem and tupac and other acclaimed rappers, and after hearing the music, discovered that rap had a connection with me. Now I am a hip hop head, and if I was from America and didn't have this accent I think I could make a good go of it

Overrated and didn't suit with me at first. But, it's actually grown on me recently. I find it somewhat enjoyable (the non mainstream stuff, apart from Eminem, Nas, etc).

  10. Lil Boosie or Webbie?

  11. The Newcomers
  12. ?

    Joey Badass or Bishop Nehru?

  13. ?

One gotta go: 2Pac, Rakim, Nas or Biggie?

A few years ago, I probably would've said "Biggie definitely" without a second thought. Now I would probably have to go with Pac. As impactful as he was, I just don't listen to him as much or enjoy his rapping as much as I used to or as much as I enjoy the other three.

I'm much more into the MC and lyricist aspect of rapping these days, which is why I would now probably take Biggie over Pac, at least if I'm being completely honest with myself about what I enjoy listening to the most.

  14. The Contenders
  15. DJ Premier or Pete Rock?

  16. Memphis or Houston?

  17. Slim Shady or Marshall Mathers?

Slim Shady. Marshall Mathers can be a bit depressing sometimes but he still good.

  18. Who's your least favorite rapper?

Unfortunately, the guy known for raping goats for no reason exists. His name is Tyga and there is no song over a -1/5. Except...Gucci Snakes which is because Desiigner saved it...I loathe Tyga with every piece if my farts. Nothing about Tyga is good. Another example is a bunch of fools called Rae Sremmurd. They have ZERO flow in most of their songs. Their sings are boring like Tygas.

Lil Wayne. He can go hard here and there (ex. Believe Me) but when I hear his songs where he just talks a bunch of random crap it throws me off.

  19. 8Ball & MJG or UGK?

  20. Death Grips or Run The Jewels?

Run the Jewels is great from what I've heard from them, but I have more experience with Death Grips, and they have such a unique sound. I'm definitely going with Death Grips.

  21. Big Daddy Kane or Rakim?

  22. Drake or Kanye West?

  23. Why are you stupid enough to like it?

Why are you stupid enough to add this item?

  24. Kool G Rap or The Notorious B.I.G.?

  25. Mike Patton or Zack de la Rocha?

This sort of counts because both of them are rappers.

  26. Chino XL or Canibus?

  27. Dance With The Devil or Stan?

Dance with the devil wins it because of one line that I thought was genius: "there's no diversity because we're burning in the melting pot"

I've all way thought Stan is overrated dance with the devil

That's very difficult... I say Dance with the devil

  28. Tupac or Nicki Minaj?

Why is this an item? They both have nothing in common!

  29. Nas or Jay Z?
