The Top Ten
Nemesis at Alton Towers An inverted roller coaster designed by Bolliger & Mabillard, it opened in 1994 and features four inversions. The ride is themed around an alien creature and is built into a rocky terrain.

Wow! Really intense and terrifying, but you feel safe and can just enjoy it. You don't have to hold on for dear life! 100% the best at AT. I hated Air because it's so uncomfortable. The theming is AMAZING! So creative and different. Utterly a CLASSIC.

Nemesis is so cleverly designed and has such a big G-Force! I love the scenery. It's absolutely amazing and the idea is really good as well.

My favorite roller coaster ever, so intense yet smooth!

Absolutely amazing. I hated roller coasters until I went on Nemesis. Brilliant! It's a ride for everyone to enjoy! The best one there (apart from Air).

Avalanche at Blackpool Pleasure Beach A bobsled-style coaster that opened in 1988, simulating a high-speed descent through an icy track. It is the only bobsled coaster operating in the UK.
The Big One at Blackpool Pleasure Beach Formerly known as the Pepsi Max Big One, this hyper coaster was the tallest and steepest in the world when it opened in 1994. It reaches a maximum height of 213 feet and a top speed of 74 mph.

Amazing height, amazing speed, amazing view, amazing drop, and amazing length of the ride!

Still edging the top of one of Europe's tallest coasters. A great thrill-seeking ride!

Epic ride... So fast, but it is so good! It goes 235 feet in the air. It is just incredible and should be at the top of the charts.

The Smiler at Alton Towers This steel roller coaster holds the world record for the most inversions on a ride, with a total of 14. It opened in 2013 and features a marmalisation theme with optical illusions and disorienting elements.

Gerstlauer's best. The only improvement I think could be made to the ride is the speed of the lift hills, which is INCREDIBLY slow (as in, glacier slow). Other than that, great paint, theming, train design, track layout, etc.

I loved the halfway bit. The Smiler and Stealth are the best rides I've been on. The Smiler has 30 turns.

Best ride ever! Thrill seekers have found their rollercoaster.

Oblivion at Alton Towers The world's first vertical drop roller coaster, it opened in 1998 and features a 180-foot drop into an underground tunnel. The ride is part of the X-Sector area and emphasizes fear and suspense.

Amazing ride with such an intense drop, your stomach churns and you're close to throwing up!

I've been on a lot of rides, and you get used to them, how they feel. You never get used to that drop. Best ride I've ever been on for that extreme adrenaline rush.

The Ultimate at Lightwater Valley One of the longest roller coasters in the world, it opened in 1991 and features a mix of steel and wood construction. The ride lasts over 7 minutes and travels through forested terrain.

Hit my head on a tree on this ride, but that was my fault for sticking it out, ahah. Amazing ride, real thriller.

Heh, the second half of The Ultimate is a dangerous thing.

Dragon's Fury at Chessington World of Adventures A spinning coaster that opened in 2004, offering a unique ride experience as cars rotate freely during the course. It is part of the Wild Asia area and features several sharp turns and drops.

Dragon's Fury is the best ride at Chessington, followed by Vampire and Tomb Blaster.

Th13teen at Alton Towers Marketed as the world's first freefall drop coaster, it opened in 2010 with a woodland and crypt theme. The ride features a surprise indoor drop section and a backwards track portion.

Awesome ride! Love the free fall and how you go backwards at the end.

Grand National at Blackpool Pleasure Beach A twin-track wooden racing coaster that opened in 1935, featuring a layout where two trains race side by side. It is one of the few remaining Möbius loop coasters in the world.

Twin track racing wooden coaster. Still the best.

Rita at Alton Towers A hydraulically launched coaster that accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in 2.5 seconds, it opened in 2005. Themed as a drag race, it is situated in the Dark Forest area of the park.

? Icon at Blackpool Pleasure Beach Icon is a Mack Rides multi-launch coaster that opened in 2018. It features two launches and various inversions.

TWO stunning launches, LUDICROUSLY smooth, beautiful soundtrack... not intense, but insanely fun and re-rideable. Seriously, hands down, my favorite coaster in the UK.

It is a great ride that is also very comfortable as well as enjoyable for everyone.

The Contenders
Shockwave at Drayton Manor Shockwave is the only stand-up roller coaster in the UK, manufactured by Intamin. It includes four inversions, including a zero-g roll.

First stand-up roller coaster and only stand-up roller coaster. Amazing pure fun, highly recommended.

Stealth at Thorpe Park A hydraulic launch coaster that propels riders from 0 to 80 mph in under 2 seconds, reaching a height of 205 feet. The ride opened in 2006 and is themed around a 1950s drag racing event.

Best ride ever! It's so fast, so high, and intense. Could it be better? I really recommend this ride to all theme park fans. It would be atrocious for you not to!

The best ride I have ever been on, though I would put The Smiler up there too. Fact: it is the fastest roller coaster in Europe!

Best coaster in Thorpe Park! Maybe even in the UK!

The Swarm at Thorpe Park This wing coaster opened in 2012 and features a post-apocalyptic theme, with near-miss elements including a crashed plane and a church tower. It has five inversions and seats riders beside the track rather than above or below.

Really epic ride. The twist at the start drops you into tight turns around scenery - was amazing!

Oh my, the head-choppers! Not to mention how brilliant some of the theming is.

Went on The Swarm four times today! Loved it. Smooth, fast, and very exciting.

Loved it. I love heights. I went on with my auntie, who is afraid of stuff like that. But she still enjoyed being upside down.

Best experience on a roller coaster!

Sonic Spinball at Alton Towers Sonic Spinball is a Maurer spinning coaster themed around a pinball machine. It opened in 2004 and features tight turns and spinning cars.

Making a ride based on a Sonic game (admittedly a rubbish one, though) was a great idea. And the ride is awesome.

Kumali at Flamingo Land Kumali is a Vekoma Suspended Looping Coaster featuring four inversions. It opened in 2006 and is themed around an African jungle.

Kumali is an intense ride and dried us off after the water rides!

One hell of a coaster, deserves to be in the top spots.

Nemesis Inferno at Thorpe Park Nemesis Inferno is a B&M inverted roller coaster that features a volcano-themed queue and station. It opened in 2003 and has four inversions.

Great ride! The air rushes through your face. So smooth. You can't go to Thorpe Park without going on it!

Megafobia at Oakwood Megafobia is a wooden roller coaster built by Custom Coasters International. It is known for its airtime and opened in 1996.

Greatest wooden coaster in the UK without a doubt!

Vampire at Chessington World of Adventures Vampire is an Arrow Dynamics suspended coaster that originally opened in 1990. The ride was refurbished in 2001 with new floorless trains.

An ideal coaster to get you into the bigger coasters. Fast through those trees, atmospheric starting place, well made, and a couple of those turns get you going...

Best ride ever! Great for adults and first-timers! With its small height restriction, anyone can enjoy this floorless adventure!
