Top 10 Hardest Things About Winter Holidays

The Top Ten
  1. Making a Christmas Wish List

  2. Socializing with Family

This is why every year my family goes on vacation down south.

It's also why I don't talk to people.

Parties can be boring sometimes because no one really talks to me.

How do you talk to your family? It's so hard.

  3. Others' Breaks Not Aligning with Yours

Some people are out of school by the 10th of December and are back on the 15th of January. Others are out from the 20th of December and back on the 20th of January.

Others, like me, are out from the 12th to the 30th of December. They won't even let us celebrate New Year's!

  4. Family Members Sleeping in Your Room

So, for two nights I had to sleep on the couch because my grandparents were in my room. That's not fair! I understand they're old, but can't anyone else? They're retired, my father is unemployed, but I have a test the next day.

Yeah, that's right. A child with her finals the next day gets a cold room, an uncomfortable couch, and only 5 1/2 hours of sleep!

  5. Holiday Spirit Easily Ruined

Holiday spirit begins in November, so between then and New Year's, there's plenty of time for tragedy.

Holiday spirit: People acting fake and getting mad easily if something doesn't go right.

  6. Giving Gifts to Others

I'm giving two of my friends band shirts because that's all I can think of. If people don't say what they want, it's so hard!

I often have a hard time thinking of presents.

  7. Giving Gifts at School

When I was in high school, my special ed teacher forced us to do the Secret Santa thing. We had to pair up with a random student, ask each other what they wanted for Christmas, and then we all went to Five Below and bought the stuff. Then we had to take the stuff home, wrap it, and give it to our partners.

And people say they wish they were in elementary school instead of high school, even though this awkward activity will be a problem.

I missed school the day they did the Secret Santa, so my only choice is to bring chocolates for the person and hope they aren't allergic.

  8. School

True. I couldn't even help my dad put up the Christmas decorations because of how much homework I had.

So it's the holiday season, why the hell are you giving us a test?

There might be vacation homework or work to catch up on, but Test Week is literally in December, which is NOT COOL.

  9. Repetitive Holiday Music

  10. Holiday Expenses

No wonder Scrooge was, well, a scrooge on Christmas before he was visited by those three ghosts.

That's because the world gets more and more greedy.

The tree and the ornaments, the food, the hotels for all the family members who aren't in your bed, etc.

  16. Stress from Visitors

My friend has some friends coming over, and her mom is being a bit strict. It's putting a lot of pressure on her.

So that's why you bribe and threaten your parents to go on a vacation.

  17. Homework Over Break

  18. Americans Unaware Others Don't Celebrate Thanksgiving

  19. Bonfire Night Is Annoying

As a child, I liked it.

It scares dogs. It kills animals like hedgehogs.

Penny for the Guy doesn't really exist anymore, so it's more of a firework festival than a historic date. I have more childhood nostalgia for Halloween, and the fact that it's older than Bonfire Night and America.
