Top 10 Loudest Toys

These toys are loud enough to violate OSHA’s noise safety laws on toys for children.
Toys should be less than 85 dB at 25 cm (roughly a toddler’s arms length), as decibel levels this high or higher would lead to hearing loss (which can be permanent), and children have ears more sensitive than adult ears.

The Top Ten
1 Balloons

Balloons themselves look colorful and fun, but they hide a secret danger to kids using them.
If you're one meter from them, they can pop at 143 dB with a pin, 147 from compression, and 151 from overinflation.
If you're half a meter from them, they can pop at 151 dB with a pin, 153 dB from compression, and 157 dB from overinflation.
If you pop such balloon next to your ears, they're 157 dB with a pin, 159 dB from compression, and 168 dB from overinflation.
That means balloons are louder than toy guns (150 dB) and comparable to some real guns.
So never mind the serious choking hazards balloons pose to children, they can promote acoustic trauma toward them and they might not see that coming from their first balloons.

2 Boom Boom Balloon Game by Spin Masters

Balloons pop anywhere from 143 to 168 dB (depending on the quality, how much air, and distance).
Those decibel levels are consistent with gunfire.
This game involves popping balloons.
Therefore this toy promotes hearing loss on children (yet adults are affected too) as each bit of their hearing is erased whenever a balloon pops.

3 Toy Guns

Toy guns go up to 150 dB which's around the range of some real guns, making them just as harmful to your ears.
A reminder that even fake weapons can be harmful in ways.

4 Disney Cars 2 Shake ‘N Go Finn McMissile by Fisher Price

You would think Fisher Price and Disney toys would be safe for ears of all ages, but this's where you're wrong.
The Shake 'N Go Cars 2 Finn McMissile toy emitted sound levels beyond what's safe for children's ears.
They emitted 124 dB at the ears, which makes them dangerously loud even at 25 cm.
Yet these were top-selling toys of the 2010's, which worsened the rate of hearing loss on children.

5 Disney Princess Follow Your Dreams

Disney princess toys should never be so loud, but this put out 118 dB up close, making it a noise hazard.
Basically this book encouraged children to follow their dreams of getting hearing loss, which's why they should never be used.

6 Bruin Press ‘n Go Horse

This toy horse emits 115.8 dB at ears and 79.6 dB at 50 cm, therefore 85.6 dB at 25 cm.
That means children are exposing themselves to levels consistent to many of the biggest music artists' concerts.

7 Buzz Lightyear Interactive Talking Action Figure by Mattel

It looks safe and harmless, but it hides a secret weapon.
His voice emits 111 dB at ears, which makes this toy a supervillain to one's ears.
As as if he's promoting hearing loss to infinity and beyond.

8 Bruin Press ‘n Go Cow

It's 110.5 dB at ears and 74.4 dB at 50 cm, though that means it's 80.4 dB at 25 cm, making it one of the safer toys.

9 Disney Moana Squeeze and Scream HeiHei by JAKKS Pacific

It emits 109.7 dB at the ears and 92.3 dB at 25 cm, which's the equivalent to many concerts, putting people at risk of hearing loss.
I can't believe Disney toys would be so dangerous for children and even adults.

10 Nickelodeon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Leonardo’s Electronic Sword by Playmate Toys

Even Nickelodeon's causing problems to children.
This toy emits 109.2 dB up close, making it a safety hazard toward children.
