Top 10 Best Minecraft Blocks

You've placed them, broken them, crafted with them, and probably built a floating dirt house out of them at least once. Minecraft blocks are more than just cubes. They're the heart of every base, trap, rollercoaster, and whatever that redstone contraption was supposed to be.

Some blocks are essential, and others are just cool to show off.

This list is where you get to decide which blocks deserve the crown. Are you all about function, like redstone geniuses who live and breathe Command Blocks? Or do you care more about flexing your wealth with a room made entirely of Diamond Blocks? Maybe you're loyal to the classic Birch Planks, because hey, they've been holding up your roof since the tutorial world.

The Top Ten
  1. Command Block

Who needs a diamond block when you spend 9 diamonds to get one block that some troll breaks with an iron pickaxe? With the command block, you just type '/clear @p,' add a pressure plate above it, and then get another that says '/set gamemode 2 @p' right next to the other. Boom! The troll can't break your diamond block.

These blocks are the most powerful. Seriously. They are as strong as bedrock and can do anything, like allow you to kill the Wither with one hit from your fist. I have no idea why anyone thinks that other blocks are stronger or better.

  2. Diamond Block

I built my house out of diamond. My sister's is out of emeralds. My friend's older brother's house is gold. My friend's little brother's house is out of quartz.

Actually, it's good for crafting a diamond sword.

Awesome and valuable. Shows off how rich you are!

  3. TNT

I love blowing stuff up, especially in creative mode when I need to get rid of something.

I love TNT because I love exploding everything and even blowing up my sister's house.

Fun to mess around with. Definitely deserves to be No. 2.

  4. Obsidian

It can help craft awesome stuff like an enchantment table and nether portal, and is so blast-resistant.

This is my favorite block of all time. It's much stronger than a diamond block and can be made into a nether portal.

    -Jack

It does not look weird, and TNT can't blow it up. The only thing that can are blue Wither skulls.

  5. Enchanting Table

I have three. I always keep them separately and at least one in secret at all times, in case my siblings try to destroy my empire.

    I really, really love enchanting.

It makes armor, weapons, fishing rods, and other things stronger.

  6. Birch Planks

Honestly, wood is the most essential block in Minecraft. You use it for many simple things like creating a crafting bench, making planks, and building your house. You also use it for things like making charcoal, making your own trees, and, of course, decoration. Hands down, my favorite block.

How do you beat Minecraft without wood? It should be number one because you can beat Minecraft without command blocks. You don't need diamonds to win, and you certainly don't need TNT to win. Five and six are blocks that you need.

  7. Beacon

Beacons are very powerful, especially if you have six fully powered ones. Once you have a Wither skull farm, they aren't that hard to get!

I love playing with beacons in creative mode, especially how you can make a different color red beacon! Thank you for making them!

It's a good light source and it can help you build faster (haste).

  8. Iron Block

They look nice for a modern theme, especially labs, walls, and vaults. My vault is made out of iron.

I love iron since it is easy to find and mine, and it's very useful.

    It's awesome!

    Iron is strong and shiny.

    It shines better than diamond.

    No one understands me...

  9. Dirt

Dirt is the greatest block in Minecraft. It supports most forms of life: wood, grass, trees, animals, mycelium, etc. If dirt did not exist, searching for food would be much harder, and the player would be nearly unable to move on from basic survival.

It may sound noobish, but dirt is a realistic and important block in its own way. Without dirt, what would the ground be made of? Stone? That wouldn't look right. Would flowers grow? No. No grass, thereby no animals because animals need grass. Sheep's wool would never grow back because their teeth would break if they tried to munch on stone. Therefore, dirt is important in its own way.

  10. Crafting Table

Without crafting tables, you would just aimlessly walk about, not collecting anything because you wouldn't have a pickaxe. Therefore, all you would do is go random places, just getting gravel, sand, and dirt.

If we did not have a crafting table, we would not be able to make pickaxes, hoes, and other tools!

This is the center of Minecraft. You can't do anything without it.

  11. The Newcomers
  12. ?

    Piston

This is awesome for REDSTONE. It's also great for dropping anvils on your enemies and making huge elevators (it's been done). There are so many purposes for this block...

  13. ?

    Carved Pumpkin

You use this for many things, including making golems (Iron, Snow, or Copper), lighting, and protecting yourself from Endermen. I can't believe I had to add this!

  14. The Contenders
  15. Dragon Egg

A unique trophy included in the game after defeating the "final boss," the Ender Dragon. I personally like to use them as lamp foundations. I wish they were included in the creative inventory instead of having to travel to the End to retrieve it every time you create a new world.

This is the rarest block ever! Literally, it is the only block in vanilla Minecraft that there can only be one of legitimately, no matter how far you travel!

Kept as a trophy. Wish it were functional, though. I could use a pet Ender Dragon.

  16. Gold Block

The squid stole SkyDoesMinecraft's block of... BUTTER! It's like real life.

Gold pickaxes break faster than diamond but have lower durability.

  17. Emerald Block

Unlike other blocks, when you find one, you usually find a lot of them. Emerald only occurs by itself on most occasions. Therefore, it is by far the rarest.

Good for villagers because they like emeralds. But I don't know why.

  18. Bedrock

Without this block, when you're mining in a hole and you mine one stone, you just fall into the void.

No one can mine it! Perfect for bases!

More than half of Minecraft players literally play on "Bedrock."

  19. Cake

I built a whole farm just to make cake, and I'm making a pillow factory too. I'm able to make over 16 cakes. This has awesomeness written all over it!

This restores 14 food points! Useful!

So many Stampy fanboys here. I don't know why. The only use for this is redstone.

  20. Anvil

Anvils are useful because you can actually have a use for enchanted books. While they are expensive, they are also very useful.

Me too! You can name anything with it! Boom!

I like naming things with the anvil.

  21. Block of Quartz

It's very beautiful and refined. It really helps when making smooth builds like eyes or a checkered pattern.

Much simpler than wool, yet much more beautiful.

Classy. Base block for modern builds. Very classy, refined, plain (wool has too many pixels), and useful. Anything modern? Quartz!

Quartz is my favorite block in the game. I love the beautiful marble-like texture.

  22. Nether Brick

Nether Brick has the most variations in shape of any block, being able to create full blocks, stairs, slabs, walls, and fences. Unfortunately, it doesn't have a fence gate. Not to mention red nether bricks as well.

A wonderful building material, meaning you can make slabs and stairs out of this great material too!

  23. Air

The most important block in Minecraft. Without it, you would instantly suffocate when generating a world.

What would the world look like without air?

  24. Glazed Terracotta

  25. Cobblestone

Cobblestone is cheap, renewable, useful, blast-resistant, flame-resistant, and pretty all at the same time! What's not to love?

Great for building homes and even entire villages. It also makes pretty durable tools!

    Good for building and crafting.

  26. Block of Redstone

Simply pretty and ruby red, making a grand mansion and electricity source.

  27. Terracotta

Great building block. It is so smooth and comes in a variety of colors. It goes great with almost any build!

Especially with cyan-stained clay. It is so great for modern themes.

  28. Pressure Plate

  29. Vines

Sweet blocks! They can be used as ladders if you want a natural-looking house. Plus, skeletons and other mobs can't see through them.
