Reasons Why Cancelling the NCAA March Madness 2020 Due to the Coronavirus Was Stupid

Okay. Four words: This is pure crap. Cancelling the biggest part of the season all along because of ONE VIRUS? We need to talk about this. The Coronavirus sucks, don’t get me wrong, but cancelling all of this simply because of its existence is one of the stupidest things I’ve ever heard.

Randomator's rant post inspired me to make my own list about this, so credit to him. And anyway, with that being said, here is the list.
The Top Ten
1 Only about 4% of the people who get the Coronavirus die from it

Correction, at most, 4 percent of the "High Risk" patients die from it. Meaning people over age 80 and with other major health issues, who usually die when they get the regular flu also. Probably the biggest problem is that healthy young people who get it barely feel it, and could spread it to their grandparents.

It is not that simple actually in Italy the death rate is as high as 8% in many other countries it is much lower though. I believe in Denmark there were 500 cases before they had anyone die from it. New Zealand is fortunate enough not to have had any deaths so far.

*sigh* Hosts, just because you GET a virus, and just because it's CONTAIGABLE, that does not mean you are guaranteed to DIE from it. Only the minority of people who actually get the virus actually die from it.
Speaking of which, even then...

2 Most of the people who actually die from the virus are elderly
3 It was never cancelled during other major viruses

What about the Ebola or flu outbreaks? Those never cancelled anything. So what’s so different about the Coronavirus?
Exactly. Nothing. They all just effect and kill thousands of people.

4 They could've just delayed it until it’s gone or becomes less common
5 It was a huge overreaction

You think this is bad. In New Zealand they have cancelled all major sporting events and in fact all events that involve more than 500 people. That's with there being only 12 confirmed cases in New Zealand as of yesterday.

Update all events that involve more than 100 people are now cancelled.

I think y’all know the story, so I’ll keep it brief. There is nothing necessary about fully stopping the league for the entire season. Do they understand that they could try other things instead of just saying "boom, cancelled."

Not an overreaction

6 They didn't listen to the fans' opinions

Hosts, don't tell me you think you would be glad the fans would be fond and agree with your choice. Seriously, did they really think the fans would be happy about what they did? They should at least realize the fans have their opinions. It's not just them who should be able to decide "boom, we ain't doing it".

7 It ruined the potential for several teams

Mainly Rutgers - after a bunch of horrible runs, an actually decent season has to be killed thanks to the stupid virus.

8 They could still have it just without anyone that got the virus

Just don't allow anyone with the virus to play, and don't allow anyone with the virus in the stadiums. Boom! Problem solved. But they didn't even think about that.
If you're gonna ask "but then how will people with the virus get to see the games?" then they can just WATCH THE GAMES ON THEIR TV. And once again, problem solved.

9 It was an immediate decision

Already kinda talked about how so, but again, they didn't even discuss it, they just came up with the conclusion that the full seasons are cancelled and reported it right off the bat.

10 It makes no sense to just cancel it

Why would you just go right ahead to do this out of so many choices? You should at least consider before making a pointless and nonsense move. Like I said, it's only THIS time the cancellation happens, so I can't find any reasoning to why it didn't happen with other mega viruses.

The Contenders
11 The cancellation robbed many seniors the opportunity to play in the March Madness.

There's players who will never the opportunity due to the virus and the cancellation. The NCAA should make the right choice and grant the seniors another year of eligibility to make up for this disaster.

12 Rutgers would have made it
13 This was Dayton’s best shot at a National Championship.
