Worst Maple Leafs Trades In the Last 5 Years

Goalies; We gave up Tuuka Rask 21st overall, a now Stanley Cup Champ for Raycroft 135th overall and Toskala 90th overall who were both with more than 3.00 gaa, where Rask has an average of 2.75 gaa.

To Toronto; 6 players that have never played, combined points of 183

Away from Toronto; 3-1st. 2-2nd draft picks, combined points of 412 while playing for other teams and 6 consecutive seasons without a Play-off birth

Burke and Fletcher are the worst GM's for the Leafs. We definitely need more Canadian players, and we should get Canadian coaches as well.
If these trades were avoided, we would probably have made the Play-offs
The Top Ten
1 Trading Tuuka Rask draft pick for Andrew Raycroft

Kessel has more points than Seguin by far in each of the seasons with Toronto and finished #7 in scoring... This trade is the one that set us back. Not the Kessel trade.

All other trades were bad, but had some semblance of logic behind them. This made absolutely ZERO sense...

Hanging on to Justin Pogge and giving Rask for Raycroft has to be one of those moments which cannot be explained with any kind of logic.

Trading a 1st round for a 135th overall was the stupidest trade ever.

2 3 draft picks for Phil Kessel

Teams as bad as the Leafs should NEVER trade draft picks. Burke barfed all over himself with this deal. Set us back 5 more years.

I still hate Burke.

Kessel has 119 points in 2 seasons, but has a -28. He wouldn't be worth one draft pick- not even Alex Ovechkin would not be worth 3 draft picks.

Best deal ever. Who says leaf draft any of those players. Probably take Drake Berehowsky

3 Trading 1st, 2nd, 4th Draft Pick for Toskala & Mark Bell

A 1st draft pick for a 90th overall goalie that let in a 197 ft goal is laughable- not to mention 2 more draft picks.

4 Matt Stajan, Niklas Hagman and Ian White for Phaneuf, Keith Aulie Sjostrom

The 4 ex-Leafs have combined for 120 points in their present NHL team. The 3 Leafs in return only have 52 pts.

BRINGING PHANEUF TO TORONTO WAS ONE OF THE DUMBEST MOVES EVER MADE (BRAGGART BURKE) KEEPING HIM HERE WAS ABSOLUTELY INSANE.

5 Ponikarovsky for Luca Caputi and Martin Skoula

Ponikarovsky had 24 points after the Leafs but Luca and Martin have 0 points combined.

6 Signing Tim Brent to Carolina

That 5-3 penalty with 3 great blocked shots, was amazing. He was the smartest hockey player for the Leafs.

7 Steen and Carlo Colaiacovo to the St. Louis Blues in exchange for Lee Stempniak

As of Feb 25th 2014, Steen has same number of goals as Sidney Crosby (28). Lee Stempniak is now playing for Calgary. Leafs ended up with Matt Jones and a 4th and 7th round selections in 2010. YIKES!

Steen just wasn't given the chance he needed. Colaiacovo for Stempniak would have been a more fair trade

What were they thinking

Two words: Alex Steen

8 Lee Stempniak for Matt Jones and 2 low Draft picks

The one shift against Ottawa, is what Leaf hockey should be.

9 Trading Kaberle to Boston for 2 Draft Picks and Joe Colbourne

Kaberle was the oldest Leaf player. I'm glad he won the Cup, but was definitely one of the best Leafs

10 Nik Antropov for 2 Draft picks

They've traded one of their highest point player, and destroyed one of the best lines; Ponikarovsky, Antropov and Stajan. The 2 picks have never played a game in the NHL and Antropov got more points than Kessel did in one season.

The Contenders
11 Acquiring Brett Lebda

He was at one point a minus -40

12 Trading the 30th overall pick (Rickard Rakell) and 39th overall pick (John Gibson) for the 22nd overall pick, Tyler Biggs.

Anaheim receives their current starting goalie and a forward with 137 and counting more games played under his belt. Tyler Biggs didn't. Play. A. Game. In a Maple Leafs sweater.

13 Dion Phaneuf for Milan Michalek and Colin Greening

How could the Leafs trade their best defenceman?! :0

14 2nd and two 4th round picks for Dave Bolland

He spent 1 season in toronto and spent almost all of it injured

15 Anton Stralman for Wayne Primeau
16 Reimer to Sharks for 4th round pick
17 Colborne for 4th Round Pick
18 Jimmy Hayes for 2nd Round Pick

In 2010, Because, they did not have a draft pick in the 1st and 2nd round due to Kessel trade, Leafs traded Jimmy Hayes to Chicago for a 2nd round pick. Leafs then selected Brad Ross with this pick.
