Top 10 Best Anime Series

My own personal list - which is what many people have done. I apologise if I have left out any series you believe are good. Please comment on them if they are good 'cos I would like to watch them.

The Top Ten Best Anime Series

1 Death Note Death Note is a Japanese television drama series based on the manga series of the same name by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata. The show is centered around Light Yagami - a promising highschooler and aspiring detective with a strong sense of "justice".

Battle of the minds hardly found anywhere else. Not only that, but you can watch the whole show very fast because it is nice and short.

I know it's practically a cliche to have this well known anime on my list, but what the hell ever. This series has something that I love in anime, a moral dilemma. I mean, you have this seemingly perfect guy, the protagonist, Light Yagami, who in reality is a serial murderer like no other with zero respect for human life and a massive god complex. Yes up until about halfway through, Light was magnificent to watch. He could scheme like no other, his intelligence only rivaled by L's, a world renowned detective with terrible posture and a pension for sweets. These two characters perfectly contradicted each other. While Light considered himself a god, L had no ego to speak of, preferring to stay in the shadows. Like many fans although I did enjoy the whole series, it did lose some of it's pinaz after (SPOILER ALERT) L died. Fabulously thrilling with amazing characters and some pretty impressive detective work on both L and Kira's part. I will always love this anime, no matter how many ...more - EffyNight

I agree Whit this beast anime I have seen I did not want to watch it at first but then I watched it and now I love it.

This had the best storyline of any anime I've ever watched, and shows just what a person will do for what they believe is justice.

I feel bad for L, with all the weights of the world on his shoulders, every single move he makes forced to the point of perfection, unable to fail for the backlash and hate, and the severe consequences. If only he could start again...

Though I pity L, I pity Light as well, because he was destroyed by his beliefs, power and intelligence. He could have had a wonderful future, met a nice girl, raised a happy family, got a really good job, (due to his high intellect) become rich. But it was all crushed when he found the Death Note.

I kinda feel sad for Naomi Misora too. She was scooped up in the Kira Case with her fiancé, losing him and eventually herself too.

I wonder what happened to Sachiko after losing her hardworking husband, prodigal son, and bubbly daughter. The wretched woman was probably reduced to a simple state of ...more

2 Dragon Ball Z Dragon Ball Z is a Japanese anime television series produced by Toei Animation. Dragon Ball Z follows the adventures of Goku who, along with the Z Warriors, defends the Earth against evil. The action adventures are entertaining and reinforce the concept of good versus evil. Dragon Ball Z teaches valuable more.

Best and memorable anime ever made. How happy they used to be with each other I loved that. How Goku sacrificed himself for others just to save beloved ones. I love that show. That old times when I was four and I watched dbz. And I was the biggest fan.

DBZ is the best anime series ever made!

Most memorable anime ever! If you haven't heard of it, you've at least heard the term suoer saiyan or, you live under a rock!

Epic Powers, Well not bad graphics but Naruto's are better, Cool characters, and mostly... SUPER SAIYAN!

3 One Piece One Piece is a manga franchise created by Eiichiro Oda. The manga has been adapted into an original video animation (OVA) produced by Production I.G in 1998, and an anime series produced by Toei Animation, which began broadcasting in Japan in 1999 and has aired 851 episodes to date.

The actual animation kinda sucks but in terms of characters, storyline, comedy, powers and creativity this is the best ever by far.. I recommend the manga

Amazing plot, incredible combination of seriousness and comedy, and wonderful action scenes! It's a very emotional anime that let's you get in the mood of the events and characters. It's empty of useless fillers like in other animes, and it'll keep on going for a long time.

This is the most amazing Anime I ever seen the story is awesome the characters are awesome the whole series is awesome

Number 1 by far. One Piece has the best characters, the best story and ist the most creative anime I ever watched. Dragon Ball Z or Naruto just can't compare to the greatness that is One Piece!

4 Naruto Shippuden Naruto: Shippuden is the ongoing sequel to the original Naruto anime and covers the Naruto manga from volume twenty-eight on. The TV adaptation of Naruto: Shippuden debuted in Japan on February 15, 2007 on TV Tokyo. It is developed by Studio Pierrot and directed by Hayato Date.

If you haven't watched this anime... You are really missing out. This is by far the best and my personal favorite anime out there. It has you in this hold that you can't pull away from. It's amazing and is really interesting. I give it a 10/10 truly a masterpiece

Its funny how Naruto Shippuden is better then Naruto itself. My favorite by far

Good anime, but way too much filler/posturing. Highly recommended, but be prepared for some truly horrible filler arcs and fights that are spoiled (and unnecessarily dragged out) by all of the cheesy dialogue.

Shippuden is definitely better than Naruto and way better than dragon ball z
This should be number one!

5 Bleach Bleach is a Japanese anime series based on Tite Kubo's manga of the same name. Bleach adapts the first 54 volumes of Tite Kubo's manga series of the same name. In addition, 4 anime-original arcs were broadcast in-between and during the adaptations of original arcs of the manga. more.

Bleach and Fairy Tail are my favorites animes of all time, but if I were to pick one I'd go for Bleach. Why? Because it is big, and by that I not only mean the world (Hueco Mundo, Soul Society, the world of the living and even hell). There are many characters and I like every single one of them. They're fun, they're interesting, and they're real. The main character, Ichigo, is how a hero should be. Someone who's strong and fights to protect. The anime looks beautifully and the fights are thrilling. The bad guys (espada and Aizen) are really great too. They're evil, but still manage to make me sympathise with them on a certain level, expect Aizen maybe. Also the anime has some really funny moments, and the whole concept of Shinigami with Zanpakutou is just plain genius. I honestly don't understand why Naruto is higher up in this list than Bleach (and Fairy Tail).

The plot of this anime is something you can love! There is comedy and that seriousness all in the same anime. If you are just starting to watch anime start with this one because above all it is the best!

Bleach ends on episode 366 but it deserve better than that spot bleach should be in top 5. Come on guys "ichigo" is more powerful than those soul eater. Can't you see guys soul eater is nothing more than copy of bleach.

Bleach is awesome! Ichigo is an awesome hero Aizen is an awesome villain so many awesome characters in bleach breaks my heart not to see it in the top three!

6 JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Jojo's Bizarre Adventure is an anime and manga franchise originally written by Hirohiko Araki. It centers around the perilous journey of the members of the legendary Joestar bloodline.

This show should be #1, most of the shows on this list were inspired by or based on the original manga, they're all wannabe's!

The Fate series and Shaman King is also worth checking out.

Mainstream anime is overrated

The fact that this is 6th means the world is wrong

7 Attack on Titan Attack on Titan, also known as Shingeki no Kyojin in Japanese, created by Hajime Isayama, is one of the most popular Japanese anime series to be released. It was first watched in Japan during 2013 and was dubbed in English to be watched in America in 2014. It is best known for its emotional moments, more.

Absolutely brilliant. The breadcrumbs for the reveals of this world come many episodes before you would have even started to look. Give this a watch if you haven't already. The first 4-ish episodes can drag a bit, but after that it just kicks into high gear and you can't NOT keep watching.

Despite so much buzz around the show, it seems as though it's relevance is disintegrating, even with the new season that came out. (Or is still coming out? ). I would definitely recommend Death Note over this. - Quigsley

This anime is the best! The plot lines and spoilers make the anime much more interesting. Even though this show is very gore, you've got to admit, it's still an amazing show.

I thought this would have been higher up! Everyone seems to love it... It's an okay anime anyway, even though it doesn't appear to have any deep points like Death Note.

8 Code Geass (R1 and R2)

Code Geass is one of those wonderful series that abandons logic at the door, only occasionally coming back to buy it a drink, before jumping back into the dance floor with lunacy and thrills. Now, this series is a total mess, but it is ridiculously entertaining. Lelouch had got to be one of the most blatantly evil hero's I've ever seen in any form of media, movies of otherwise. With a body count that has got to be in the 100,000's, Lelouch manages to be likable and despicable at the same time. Because, you know, everything he did was for his blind and crippled little sister. In the end he was willing to pay the price for peace, and pay he did. Although Suzaku kind of pissed me off sometimes, watching Lelouch put together his legendary battle strategies was thoroughly gripping. - EffyNight

Never in my life watch something and got so frustrated. Yes, I'm that into it. The plot is amazing and the ending is legend.

This is so fun to read. it is so awesome, I think it beats the others by a long shot, not saying they are bad though. - maggot-104

Great story, unbelievable twists, really well written, loved it, waiting for sequel

9 Full Metal Alchemist

It should be Top 5, according to me. Although the only anime I ever finished and technically, the only Anime I ever watched, it is a really powerful show. To this day, when I think of it, I still feel my heart literally feeling heavy yet happy.

This will always be my favorite. The story is fantastic riddled with tragedy, humor, action, and much more. The characters are lovable and the ending, no matter which version, are bound to bring tears to your eyes

Fullmetal Alchemist has changed my life. It had life lessons, like to be grateful for what you have, and it's definitely number one on my top ten anime series. If you haven't seen it, GO WATCH IT.

Great Characters, Great Story and a Brill ending will always bring you to tears after watching.

10 Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood‎

This is by far the best anime of all time.
Beautiful, funny, heartbreaking, clever...throughout the whole series. Yes, the show depends a little too much on seeing the 2003 version, because they are rushing through the first episodes. But damn, the show is absolutely amazing.
Death Note on the other hand, Part 1 is perfect. Part 2 is just boring/lackluster.
But jeez, it's even below the 2003 version which doesn't even have an ending without seeing a movie. (The 2003 version is amazing as well by the way)

How is this not top 3. Check the other rating sites, watch it and see that it is clearly superior to the other anime

The Contenders

11 Fairy Tail Fairy Tail is a manga franchise created by Hiro Mashima. The manga has been adapted into an anime series produced by A-1 Pictures and Satelight, which began broadcasting in Japan on October 12, 2009. Additionally, A-1 Pictures and Satelight have developed seven original video animations and an animated more.

Fairy Tail is such a beautiful anime. The characters each have their own unique and amazing personality. This anime portrays awesome battles, beautiful romances, hilarious moments and teary moments.

One of the greatest animes EVER! Could rival One Piece I love Fairy Tail and its characters that much. I want to join Fairy Tail!

Could become better, but on the way to becoming a top show.

I don't understand why this is number ten...I mean I don't think it's number one. But TEN! Really! This is a GREAT ANIME! - ScarletBlade

12 Cowboy Bebop Cowboy Bebop is a 1998 anime television series animated by Sunrise featuring a production team led by director Shinichirō Watanabe, screenwriter Keiko Nobumoto, character designer Toshihiro Kawamoto, mechanical designer Kimitoshi Yamane, and composer Yoko Kanno.

This show is amazing, and there is nothing I can said about it. Just go watch it and you'll understand what I mean. - SAOisTRASH

The episodes stand all on their own, with no necessity to see all of them to get a perfect idea of the plot. Yet, the series grips you to the point where you WANT to watch all of them. The cast is incredible and completely engaging. No character is left behind.

Why isn't this already on this list? Are you people kidding me?

Cowboys. In Space. Need I say more? - EffyNight

13 Hunter x Hunter Hunter × Hunter is a manga franchise created by Yoshihiro Togashi. In 1999, Hunter × Hunter was adapted into a 62-episode anime television series produced by Nippon Animation and directed by Kazuhiro Furuhashi. The show premiered on Japan's Fuji TV and ran until 2001. Three separate original video more.

The most well written and breathtaking anime I have ever seen. Such a lovable cast of amazingly written characters, lighthearted humor mixed with a dark and serious plot line. If you enjoy adventure or action style anime, I can assure you this will definitely be worth a watch. The story itself gets quite heavy and serious later on in the show, especially the fifth arc, and I can understand if you become uninterested by that kind of story, but it puts a more lighthearted twist of the dark plot with witty and silly humor and an array of colorful characters. Hunter x Hunter is an amazing anime/manga and deserves a lot more love than it gets.

Not a single arc that isn't worth watching and that means no boring fillers that last for 40 episodes. It keeps your attention till the end and in the very last few episodes you enter a state of depression where you're praying that there's a second season. At first I thought this anime would be like a weird version of Dragon Ball Z but it is the BEST SHOUNEN ANIME I've ever seen and I have seen a LOT of anime my friend, this definitely deserves to be in the top 5.

This anime is not about a little boy living in a village that likes fishing and tries to find his father. This anime is one of the deepest I have seen if not the deepest. The characters are so well written that it's not believable, same thing can be said to the chimera ant arc. It's a shame that Naruto, Death note, and specially dragon ballz are considered better than HxH... Personally I think it's the greatest anime of all time. Nothing comes close.

Very underrated should be at least top 10

14 Black Butler Black Butler is a Japanese anime television series produced by A-1 Pictures and premiered in October, 2008.

This is the best anime I ever watched even after I watched death note code grass and attack on titan I don't think I will find an anime better than this.

Best anime ever!

Ciel told me how much variation of fashion line can be match for a 12th boy who an English nobleman in 19th century.. Contract with a Devil? Just like Death Note which has a contract with shinigami.. Hoho.. I like this kind of story..

15 Naruto Naruto is an anime and manga franchise Naruto, created by Masashi Kishimoto. The manga was later adapted into a television anime, which was produced by Studio Pierrot and Aniplex. It premiered across Japan on the terrestrial TV Tokyo and other TX Network stations on October 3, 2002. The first series more.

This was the first anime I watched and made me want to watch even more.

Best anime... From deep of my heart

Better than shippuden

16 Parasyte: The Maxim
17 Angel Beats! Angel Beats! is a 13-episode Japanese anime television series produced by P.A.Works and Aniplex and directed by Seiji Kishi.

This anime is emotional and tear-jerking. The characters are all youths who live in the afterlife because they weren't able to achieve the lifetime dream they should had, so they are there fighting against 'God', for giving them such terrible lives.
Overall, a masterpiece anime that haunts you all the time, and makes you realize, life is worth it.

A truly brilliant anime in every respect. I cried so much during most episodes. It has very inspirational characters with there own problems. And it brings on a whole new take on what it means to alive. I highly recommend this anime to anybody who needs a little warmth in there day. Also I recommend having a box of tissues, trust me you will need them.

This anime is great it made me cry. But it also teaches you that life really is worth living. The en of episode 13 was one of the saddest parts in the series

The first episode was really good, but sadly I couldn't find any high quality English subbed or dubbed episodes. Darn my Englishness! Well, I kinda like being English... Oh well.

18 Neon Genesis Evangelion Neon Genesis Evangelion, commonly referred to as Evangelion or Eva, is a Japanese animated television series produced by Gainax and Tatsunoko Production, and directed by Hideaki Anno.

In a league of its own. - gaali121

19 Soul Eater Soul Eater is an anime series directed by Takuya Igarashi and produced by Bones, Aniplex, Dentsu, Media Factory, and TV Tokyo, which adapts the Soul Eater manga written and illustrated by Atsushi Ohkubo.

I love soul eater! I just finished all 51 episodes in just 3 to 4 days. There is a very disappointing ending which could have been much better. The ending ruined the last episode and made it turn into something that 4kids would make.
It is a wonderful anime with fascinating characters and lots of variety. There are so many characters and you will like at least 1. Also, it has an excellent storyline which has lots of twists and turns. The only downside is the ending. The last episode is the worst and after the 30th or 40th episode, it doesn't go off the manga any more but it is just to be able to make an ending for it.
Overall, it's a good anime that I recommend you to watch, whatever genre you like.

Soul Eater is real good and people are missing out, this is a excellent planned out anime. Even though with 51 episodes it still is the bomb. I think the only reason is people only watch mainstream animes like bleach and Naruto, if only Soul eater was posted on shonen jump then it would have surpassed 51 episodes right now.

This is the best anime surely other anime heroes always win in this anime the main characters are quite losing to strong enemies but as the anime keeps going they become more stronger than ever it has good opening endings

I LOVE SOUL EATER! DEATH THE KID IS ONE OF THE COOLEST ANIME CHARACTERS EVER! The only other good anime on this list are Death Note, Fullmetal Alchemist and Fairy Tail but there not as epic as Soul Eater!

20 Dragon Ball Dragon Ball is a Japanese anime television series produced by Toei Animation. It made anime popular in America and is based on the manga of the same name by Akira Toriyama. It was dubbed in English on Cartoon Networks Toonami block and still has many fans today.

23 Kaze no Stigma Kaze no Stigma is a Japanese light novel series written by Takahiro Yamato and illustrated by Hanamaru Nanto. After the death of the author on July 20, 2009, the story remains incomplete at twelve volumes. A 24-episode anime adaptation directed by Junichi Sakata and animated by Gonzo aired from April–September more.

Kaze no stigma is absolutely brilliant.Too bad it doesn't have the second season because the author died but it should be in top 5 at least.Kazuma's voice actor in dubbed if jellal in Fairy Tail and Ayano is Lucy in Fairy Tail. I mean most voice actors from Kaze no stigma totally went to Fairy Tail. People of the world you have to watch this anime.

I 💙 Kaze no Stigma. My favorite Character is Kazuma Yagami because he has awesome powers like wind🌀💨. I like the story but its sad how they didn't continue the series. I wish they made more

In my opinion it is one of the best psychological anime series because it shows true human nature. It's a good anime and manga and it is sad

This anime has to be one of the best, after Death Note.

I loved the ending for both the anime and the manga. Heartwrenching, the only word I can use to describe this series.

29 Serial Experiments Lain Serial Experiments Lain is an avant-garde anime series directed by Ryutaro Nakamura, with character design by Yoshitoshi ABe, screenplay written by Chiaki J. Is it just me, but does anyone find the series more satisfying than the movie? I found that in the series, all the characters played such important parts to the story.

38 InuYasha InuYasha is a manga franchise created by Rumiko Takahashi. It was adapted into two anime television series produced by Sunrise. This is definitely the best anime series! Why is it so low on the list?

44 11eyes

Oh my gosh! Thank you whoever put this as a choice on this list. This show is so underrated. It keeps getting undeserved negative criticisms, in my opinion. The most annoying criticism would be the claim that it has excessive fan-service. With the exception of Yuka's panty shots several times per episode, the rest of the fan-service is pretty light. I mean, some people even compare it to something like Sekirei or Freezing, and I'm like 'in what episode do you see 20 boob shots' - MottScurry
