Top 10 Scariest Anime Characters

The Top Ten
Hisoka - Hunter x Hunter

Yup! Yup! This dude made me want to hug Gon because he always freaks out when it comes to Hisoka. That dude is just... Oh, god...

When The Joker and Pennywise the Clown had sex, the result was Hisoka.

This guy gives me chills when he's on screen. I feel really bad for Gon. He freaks out whenever he sees Hisoka.

Lucy - Elfen Lied Lucy (born as kaede), is a tragic, fictional Japanese Anti-Heroine, and Anti-Villianess, who is the main protagonist of her debut source, a manga officially known as Elfen Lied [alfen leed], written and illustrated by Lynn Okamoto, which was best known for it's T.V. adaptation of the same name, Directed... read more

If you're surprised Lucy is on this list, then you ain't a smart cookie, are you? Lucy is a Diclonius (I don't care if I spelled it wrong), which is a newly evolved species that is exactly like humans except they have psychokinetic abilities.

When Lucy was a child, she was brought into an orphanage where the other kids made fun of her for looking slightly different. The other kids went as far as killing her puppy to tease her for being different. That's when she meets a boy named Kouta and falls in love with him to the point it might scare some people.

The reason she isn't in my top three is because, like Shiro, she has a split personality which I find so adorable to the point it physically hurts me.

Yuno Gasai - Future Dairy Yuno Gasai is the main female protagonist from the anime series "Mirai Nikki" or "Future Diary" published in October 10, 2011. Yuno Gasai is the second dairy owner and is a yandere who kills for Yukki, she owns the Diary of Future Love. She has pink hair tied into two low hanging pigtails with red ribbons... read more

She is by far the cutest psycho that I have ever seen. The author really outdid himself. She is the scariest character you could possibly think of.

She is so scary, cute, and insane. The way she talks about killing is too scary, as if it is an everyday task. For her, it is. She kills without any care.

Nothing is scarier than a girl who seems sweet and innocent at first but is actually a sadistic psychopath.

Ai Enma - Hell Girl Ai Enma is the main protagonist of the series, and is the one known as the "Jigoku Shoujo"--地獄少女--literally translated into English version as "Hell Girl." As such, she makes a regular appearance in the series, although her appearance is smaller and less frequent in "Hell Girl Three Vessels"... read more

This girl is scary because of her near emotionless personality. The way she creeps behind people is so shocking. Don't even get me started on her assistants. Hone Onna, Ren, and Wanyuudou are just as scary as her with all the weird stuff they do.

Ai is so scary and cool at the same time. The way she just appears behind people and her emotionless demeanor make her terrifying. Her "Ippen... Shinde miru?" is just so spooky and awesome.

If a robot looked like a teenage girl, then this is the result. She's emotionless.

Sachiko Shinozaki - Corpse Party

She's my second favorite Corpse Party character. She's both cute and terrifying at the same time with a very interesting and deep story! Side note: I suggest playing the games instead of watching the anime because the anime goes a bad end kind of route and changes or cuts out a lot of the story of the first game to keep it crammed into those four episodes.

How is a guy from Digimon scary? Sachiko is a young child who tortures others for FUN. She enjoys stabbing out eyeballs, ripping out intestines, dissecting live people, and stabbing people with her SCISSORS! Oh, ps, she also cut off the head of an elementary student! Dragon Ball people aren't scary and Digimon? What?!?

Lucemon - Digimon Fusion
Johan Liebert - Monster Johan Liebert is a character in the anime and manga series Monster, created by Naoki Urasawa. He is the twin brother of the main character, Dr. Kenzo Tenma, and serves as the primary antagonist. Johan is a highly intelligent, manipulative individual with a mysterious past, capable of bending people... read more

I mostly imagine what I would do when a scary villain comes in front of me. It's only in the case of Johan that I think I would cower in fear. I had never expected the 'monster' to have such an angelic face, but even that angelic face didn't help me with my fears. The way his mind worked was super scary. Truly evil. Smart. Manipulative. The scariest thing - a realistic villain.

Why is he number one? Because he is a manipulative psychopath who has no real name. Throughout the entire show, he is known as the Devil or the Nameless Monster.

Do I even need to explain why he's so scary? Watch Monster if you want to know what I mean.

Russia - Hetalia
Light Yagami - Death Note Light Yagami is a fictional character and the protagonist of the manga series Death Note, created by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata.

Light is an evil genius who is capable of killing anyone with a flick of a pen. Do I really need to explain why he's so scary?!

As long as this guy doesn't know your name, he can never kill you.

He is a heartless genius who will psychologically mess you up. Winning is everything to him.

Shiro - Deadman Wonderland Shiro is a mysterious and enigmatic character in the anime and manga series Deadman Wonderland. Recognizable by her all-white attire and childlike demeanor, she harbors dark secrets and has a deep connection to the protagonist, Ganta Igarashi. Her dual nature of innocent appearance and violent tendencies... read more

Shiro has always been my most favorite character out of all the anime I've watched just because of how bubbly and cheerful she is, and how deadly she can be when her split personality (Wretched Egg) takes over.

I agree. Shiro always creeped me out, even at the beginning. Mockingbird did too. She was too happy and childish in a place like Deadman Wonderland. Her split personality was like whiplash. But over time, I came to actually like Shiro.

Out of all the characters in Deadman Wonderland, why did I put Shiro on this list? The reason is her split personality and how it comes out so unexpectedly.

The Newcomers

? Kabuto Yakushi - Naruto Kabuto Yakushi is a fictional character in the anime and manga franchise Naruto, created by Masashi Kishimoto.
? Pride - Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood

Pride looks like Alucard from Hellsing had a child.

The Contenders
Smiling Titan - Attack on Titan
Glutonny - Fullmetal Alchemist

Do I really need to explain this one? Getting eaten alive by this guy is such a horrifying way to die. Having the thought that a near-unstoppable tub of lard that is pretty much immortal is hunting you down so he can eat you alive will bring fear to anyone.

Wrath vs. Gluttony. Wrath is like a pebble being flicked and crunched in someone's mouth.

He is both one of the cutest and one of the most terrifying characters in all of anime.

Ash Landers - Black Butler

This is the most evil portrayal of an angel ever. He/She is a crazy psychopath that wants to purify the world of its filth. Do I really need to say why he/she is so scary? Ash left the queen to die, and Angela made a scary mix of both Ciel's mom and dad.

More than scary, he/she is the creepiest character ever. You don't get to be the hottest-looking angel and then change your gender to a guy for whatever creepy purposes you have.

Ash is freaky as crap. He is all about "purifying" and stuff but... No, laugh out loud.

Shion Sonozaki - Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni

Higurashi has a very, very weird story that's actually composed of several stories. Shion is the creepiest character in all of them. It's not so much the murdering. Anybody can do that. No, the real reason she's scary is twofold.

1: She's so incredibly manipulative of everybody around her.

And 2: How damn CALM she is when she's killing everyone. At least near the start. Then she becomes completely INSANE. The main hallmark? That laugh. The laugh that haunts my nightmares.

She is a psychopath, way crazier than Yuno in my opinion. She doesn't kill you right away. She slowly and painfully tortures you. She's also cold and manipulative, doing what it takes to get what she wants. Not to mention she's a sadist because she enjoys watching your pain and suffering. In my opinion, this is the creepiest character in anime. Higurashi scarred me so much.

Creed - Black Cat

He is scary because he is the only anime character that is close to representing a serial killer. He murders Saya and was all like, "I freed you from a curse of an evil witch," and expects Train to just stay calm. What man. Do I really need to explain why he's so scary?

Also, people in my anime club ask me, "Is Creed gay?" My answer to that is maybe. Since he's so obsessed with Train, I'm gonna say maybe. So all I need to say is that Creed is a psychopath who is just power hungry.

Cell - Dragon Ball Z Cell is a fictional character in the Dragon Ball series by Akira Toriyama. He is the main antagonist of the Android Saga, being an android/artificial life form from the future, whose goal is to become "perfect" via absorbing Androids 17 and 18 and becoming the strongest fighter in the universe.

Oh, come on, the thought that this thing can absorb you with his tail just to get stronger will scare anyone.

The way he melts that man, though... 0_0

Kid Buu - Dragon Ball Z Kid Buu is an anime fictional character from the anime series, Dragon Ball Z, created by Akira Toriyama.
Belarus - Hetalia

She's a crazy stalker who even manages to scare Russia! She leaves claw marks on his door, for God's sake!

She is pretty scary. Poor Russia.

A creepy brother-stalker who is obsessed with incest, shipping herself with Russia (her brother).

Mei Misaki - Another Mei Misaki is the female protagonist of Another and a student of Class 3-3 in 1998. She was labeled by her classmates as "the one that does not exist."
Nina Tucker - Fullmetal Alchemist Nina Tucker is a fictional character from the Fullmetal Alchemist manga series and its adaptations created by Hiromu Arakawa.
Kyubey - Puella Magi Madoka Magica Kyubey is a fictional character from the 2011 anime series Puella Magi Madoka Magica and its related media.

Don't let his looks deceive you. While he may look like your typical cutesy magical girl sidekick on the outside, on the inside... *spoiler alert* he turns girls into magical girls so they can fight monsters known as witches. These witches were magical girls that were corrupted by the witch essence left on their transformation devices. Thus, the magical girls are slowly getting corrupted into the monsters themselves. When they get destroyed by the magical girls, they get turned into corrupted and destroyed transformation devices, which are then somehow eaten by Kyubey just to keep his race alive. Wash, rinse, repeat.

Yeah, it was probably right that Homura tried to kill this creepily adorable manipulator to prevent him from turning Madoka into the ultimate magical girl to destroy the world.

Orochimaru - Naruto Orochimaru is a fictional character from the Naruto universe created by Masashi Kishimoto and developed into a media franchise, which consists of a series of manga, anime, soundtracks, OVAs, movies, video games, and other collectibles.

A gay pedophile who can turn into a horrific demon snake, steals other people's bodies, speaks like he's having an orgasm with every word, used to be friends with the biggest pervert and the woman with the worst temper (and biggest chest) in his world, and whose right-hand man injected himself with his DNA to pretty much become him? Genius.

This guy is a snake-pedo-man. Jesus, I mean sure he's a great villain (despite doing disturbing things with his body) but he is OBSESSED with Sasuke. We all know he has a shrine of him in his bedroom. It's gross.

Shou Tucker - Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood Shou Tucker is a fictional character from the Fullmetal Alchemist manga series and its adaptations created by Hiromu Arakawa.

This man turned his one and only daughter into a talking chimera by combining her with her dog. Why did he do this? To save his State Alchemist Certification.

Shou Tucker = The Worst Father Ever.

This is literally the only anime character who has ever made me fearful of an anime show. He is not the most powerful villain in the world, nor is he a serial killer or a representation of death. He is simply an alchemical scientist and a dad.

The thing that makes him so incomparably scary is the lengths he has gone to for the sake of his research. In the series, it was noted that he murdered his wife through alchemy to further his research on chimeras. Years after lying to everyone about her death, he conducts an experiment with the family dog and his daughter, essentially fusing the two to create an inexplicably eerie chimera with his daughter's emotions and thoughts still attached.

In probably the darkest scene I have ever witnessed, this man deserves to be at the top. Chills have never failed to follow the thoughts of this scene, even after so many years since this anime's release.

Tatarigami - Princess Mononoke
Nina - Code Geass

How dare she knock over the table. The table did nothing wrong... despite being a table.
