Top 10 Best NFL Offenses of All Time
Wes Welker, Randy Moss, and Tom Brady on the same team for one of the highest-scoring NFL offenses ever? There should be no question about it.
As a Patriots fan, duh, I believe they're the best. But 16-0 is enough to make even any fan of the game believe it was the best team ever.
Simply the greatest team to never win the Super Bowl and arguably the greatest team ever.
They hold most of the records in the regular season and postseason in all of NFL history and went to the Super Bowl. They were missing five starters in the big game. Otherwise, they would have won that! You won't find another team that can compare - not ever in the history of the game. Period.
There have been many great offensive teams, but the 2013 Broncos are the ONLY team to have scored 600 or more points, so no team had a better offense than they did. Sorry, delusional Patriots fans, but it's true.
Logical. If anyone does the math, the 2013 Denver team wins hands down. When you break the TD record by 5 and the passing yards record for one season, you are automatically placed at #1. Argue all you want, SB win or not, it is what it is!
#1 - The 2000 Rams. (No, I'm not a Rams fan at all. I'm a Raiders fan.) They had the best offense I've ever seen. Great offensive line. A quarterback playing as well as any QB ever has. A great running attack. Fast and reliable wideouts running the West Coast Offense better than anyone ever has.
#2 - 1987 49ers.
#3 - 1998 Vikings.
#4 - 1992 Cowboys.
#5 - (not even mentioned) 1990 Buffalo Bills. (You know I'm not biased, as they beat my Raiders 51-3 in the playoffs.)
This year's Vikings? If anything, this year's Saints should be in the top ten. The '83 Redskins were great too, despite losing horribly in the Super Bowl.
I'm not being biased, but I've been a Vikings fan since the mid-'80s in a Midwest town that was still talking about the '85 Bears. But the 1998 Vikes were what the Rams eventually became as the "Greatest Show on Turf." They had the same offensive setup. Robert Smith could run and catch the ball out of the backfield. Cris Carter was the veteran wide receiver who could always catch any ball thrown to him. Jake Reed was on his game, and then there was the "Freak," Randy Moss!
I have never seen a wide receiver at his height and length have such ridiculous speed. So, Rams fans, remember that no one had ever put up numbers like the Vikings until the 2007 Patriots.
Underrated and should be in the top 3 of all time. One of the most dominant offenses in NFL history, they terrified opposing defenses and were one of the most fun to watch. Drew Brees was unstoppable and guaranteed his first-ballot Hall of Fame induction.
Most single-season yards, Drew Brees with the most 300+ passing yard games, most 350+ passing yard games, most completions, highest completion percentage, fastest ever to 3,000 and 4,000 yards. Best start in NFC history at the time. Darren Sproles with the most all-purpose yards. Jimmy Graham with the most receiving yards for a tight end.
The Newcomers
The Triplets... that's all. Troy Aikman handing the ball to Emmitt Smith and tossing it to Michael Irvin from behind one of the best offensive lines in the history of the game. A great tight end named Jay Novacek and another great wideout in Alvin Harper. Three rings in four years says a lot. The only playoff loss came from Steve Young's 49ers in the 1994 NFC Championship game. That's the caliber of team it took to outshine these guys.
While I agree that the '07 Patriots were great, they will always have a couple of asterisks during the Tom Brady years. Spygate and Deflategate, true or not, really hurt the reputation of the team - namely the offense.
Statistically, yes. Realistically, yes. This team was able to outrun a mediocre defense and virtually decimate any and every team they played. Oh, and they played the toughest defensive schedule of all 32 franchises.
This offense had so many weapons and was well-balanced. If you can't score 30, you're in trouble.
High-flying attack. See you in Houston!
There was nothing that "Air Coryell" couldn't do! They could score at will and lost the AFC Championship game in -50 degree weather. The 49ers played the Bengals in the Super Bowl that year, and the next year, the Chargers played them back-to-back and scored 91 points on them. Absolutely incredible to watch.
I've been watching football since 1970, and I have never seen a team score at will like the '81 Chargers. They had Pro Bowl talent at every position on offense and a genius at coach in Don Coryell, or Air Coryell. He did the same thing with the St. Louis Cardinals.
They went 15-1 and had the worst defense in the league. Aaron Rodgers broke the record for single-season passer rating.
Anyone watching this season knew Green Bay was unstoppable on offense.
Manning, Edgerrin James, Harrison, and Wayne were a lethal combination. Manning broke the record for most touchdown passes by a QB with 48, and they were one Big Ben tackle away from potentially going to the SB.
This is the 2nd greatest offense of all time. Peyton broke every record that year. They also had a great running game and 3 Pro Bowl offensive linemen.
This should easily be in the top five offenses of all time. A 1,600-yard rusher in Edgerrin James, Peyton Manning breaking the single-season record for TDs, Marvin Harrison and Reggie Wayne - two Hall of Famers on either side, and Jeff Saturday at center. It's a clear-cut top-five offense.
This 2009 New Orleans Saints team averaged an impressive 32 points per game - only one point behind the 2000 Rams - while also racking up over 400 yards of offense per game. Not only that, quarterback Drew Brees paved the way to the championship with a 109.6 passer rating, accumulating over 4,300 yards of offense. The team also managed to combine for another 2,100 rushing yards.
The 2009 Saints earned a reputation for possessing a highly capable, multi-dimensional offense that could dismantle opposing defenses by effectively alternating between the pass and run throughout the entire season - despite a three-game skid after starting 13-0.
How in the hell does "The Greatest Show on Turf" come in at #17? Their offense consisted of Kurt Warner, Marshall Faulk, Isaac Bruce, Torry Holt, and Orlando Pace. Plus, they won the Super Bowl that year, and Kurt Warner won MVP. You guys gotta change this.
As good as the Broncos' offense is today, or any team for that matter, the Rams have shown and proven that they are truly the greatest. Without any hesitation, they proved that the Patriots were no match for this Rams offense.
One of two teams to score 50 passing touchdowns, top 5 ever. In a century of existence, they almost got to the Super Bowl for the first time since 1969, before the merger.
This team should be in the top 5, at least. They scored the 3rd most points in NFL history.
Although they lost to a great defensive team in SB 50, that Cam-led offense was unstoppable all year and deep into the playoffs. If they had won SB 50, we would probably be talking about them as one of the best teams ever!
Cam Newton on offense as QB and on defense the greatest MLB, Luke Kuechly. He had 591 tackles in his 4 years of football, and Cam could run to gain yards and score when they didn't use their FB. I'm not a Panthers fan, but they're great.
They should be so much higher on this list. With an MVP QB leading an unstoppable offense that scared defenses, they should've won SB 50!
Three Broncos are in the Hall of Fame from this offense - Shannon Sharpe, John Elway, and Terrell Davis. And they are only #22 on this list? Really?
