Top Ten Most Original Mario Platformersdarthvadern Mario is known for being super creative and original with his games. However, only the RPG's are really that original, however some of the platformers can be unique as well, here's the most original of them!
The Top Ten
In my opinion this is without doubt the most original mario platformer. Not only is the story somewhat different from other platformers, the level design is superb! Most mario games have the same lava, grass and desert worlds, Super Mario Sunshine only focused on beach and vacation themed worlds, and it tunred out excellent! It forced the developers to get really creative and it's mind-blowing how all the worlds feel completely different despite all sticking to the vacation theme. The story is also quite unique for a mario platformer. Because Peach doesn't get kidnapped right away when the game starts. On top of that there's F.L.U.D.D which lets you squirt water at enemies, hover in the air for a few seconds, fly up in the sky with high-pressured water and run super fast depending on what nozzle you're using. Easly the most original mario platformer! - darthvadern
Fludd. enough said.
If I am going to speak truth here, apart for all the ports on the Nintendo Switch, mario games in the Switch has overall been so unique and incredible! I don't think there is a single new mario game on the Switch that's bad! The best and most original of them is Super Mario Odyssey! Good lord is the gameplay godly! It's smooth, fast and very unique! Because you have Cappy which you can throw at enemies to posses them and do awesomne things! - darthvadern
Yes, the Super Mario Galaxy games. The ones that will never be forgotten! It's quite a discussion which Galaxy game is the best one. I personally prefer the second one slightly more because I felt the worlds were bigger and better. However, despite the second one mbeing my favourite, I can't deny that the original was way more original (no pun intended). In the second one, you traveled on a "world" map between galaxies, but here you go inside domes and you chose a galaxy you want to go to and it's much more creative! Now granted, some galaxies are just filler in this game unlike the second one, but the hub world and so on is much more unique in the original and the whole dome idea is incredible! And also, the first Galaxy game still remains to this day as being the mario game with the best soundtrack of all time! - darthvadern
THE original Mario game, you can't get more original than the first.
It's the one that started it all! It should be number 1. - B1ueNew
I thought this would be at #1. - MrCoolC
I didn't know which one should've been higher, this or Mario 3, but at the end of the day I put World above. Simply it's the most original in my opinion. While Mario 3 introduced the world map, none of the worlds in that game felt connected. In this game though all the world maps are connected to each other creating a grand world map! It's awesomne! The level design was also a bit better in this game in my opinion so that's why it's higher - darthvadern
This was the first 3D mario game ever made and one of the first 3D games ever made! It's very original and ubique and it's great! However the level design wasn't the absolute best and there were barely any NPCs in the game so that's why it's pretty low in the list, and to be honest, when compared to games like Galaxy and Sunshine this hasn't aged that well. - darthvadern
No, it's a great game but not that original, sure the idea of mixind 2D and 3D was cool but the level design just plain sucked. And Super Mario 3D World did it better - darthvadern
It's a good game. - B1ueNew
This game was so revolutionary for Super Mario! The level design and introduction of world maps was excellent! The controls are near-perfect and the variety in worlds is incredible! While it does have grass, water and desert worlds. Two of the worlds were so unique and those types of worlds have rarely appeared in recent mario games! It's excellent! - darthvadern
Should be way higher - B1ueNew
I was suprised by how unique a video game sequel really can be! It's not as original as the first one but it's better in my opinion. The level design was excellent and I loved the galaxies! Especially in World 3 and World 5! While the world map is boring, the hub world is quite cool. It's basically a "faceship" (pun intended). Truly an excellent and original mario game! - darthvadern
Love it, but it is not a platforming game. - Drawbox
This isn't a platformer! - darthvadern
Shigeru Myamoto considers this to be part of the mario platformer series so I had it here as well. This game is a prequel to all of the mario games and focuses on Yoshi and Baby Mario saving Baby Luigi and a stork who have been kidnapped by Kamek. It's unique because the gamepaly is so great! You control Yoshi who can spit eggs and eat enemies, and you also have Baby Maio on your back. It's really original! - darthvadern
This truly is the most original mario 2d platformer! While it's not my favourite, it's indeed original! You know how in most games you stomp on enemes to defeat them? Well ion this game you must throw vegetables at them! You can even pick up enemies in this game! This game is so unique! - darthvadern
No not really - darthvadern
I was suprised by how unique this game was at times. First off, Peach is never kidnapped in this game, instead you must rescue these sprixie princesses that rule over the Sprixie Kingdom, what makes this game on the list though is the level design! Good lod is the level design excellent! At one point you will wander in a circus and walking on flip-switches, another moment you will be playing a mario kart themed level with boost pads and another moment you will be walking around with a goomba mask on in a dojo! Do I need to go on? - darthvadern
It's original at being terrible - darthvadern
