Top Ten Greatest SpongeBob SquarePants Special Episodes

This is a list of the top ten SpongeBob SquarePants special episodes (don't worry, there's no Atlantis Squarepantis or Truth or Square, and I will not accept votes to bring them in, even at the bottom). The list contains any 11-22 minute long episode advertised as a special (overhyped episodes do not count.)
The Top Ten
1 Christmas Who?

This was an AMAZING episode. It warmed my heart knowing that Squidward gave all away of his stuff and dressed like Santa just to please SpongeBob. Also, this episode was pretty funny, like for example, Patrick kept writing on his paper the wrong way. There was also a cool roast from Spongebob to Squidward.
"Great Squidward, you finished! What's your wish? "
"My wish is that the people of Bikini Bottom will stop paying any attention to the dribble that is constantly screaming at this dunderhead's mouth! "
"Jee Squidward, maybe Santa will bring me a dictionary this year so I can understand what you just said! " (to be honest, I don't understand what he said either LOL)

This is the special we remember most. More than Dunces and Dragons or Friend or Foe. The one where Sandy tells SpongeBob of Christmas and then he tells all of Bikini Bottom about it. Sandy then disappears from the plot (probably for hibernation, which should've happened already, but that's just a nitpick.) We all remember the song, the crazy Santa scene, everything. It's just THE SpongeBob special.

I love the part where Squidward got roasted by Spongebob. P.S. why is Spongebob, You're Fired on this list?

2 Have You Seen This Snail?

This episode is rather sad, and even though we've seen this plot explored before in Dumped, I'd say this episode does it better because it wasn't for a petty reason. Instead of being for a cookie, it's because SpongeBob neglects Gary because he won't feed him on account of him trying to win a paddleball challenge. The song is probably the most depressing song you'll ever see in SpongeBob, but I wouldn't say there's much replay value because a plot is slightly unpredictable at one area, but other than that, it is pretty solid.

Although it does have some gross parts, it's a pretty sad Spongebob special. I'll leave it a link. If I can't link it, I'm sorry. I know this is a special, but it still seems shorter because of how entertaining and dramatic it is. Here are the catagories of the Spongebob specials. Really interesting, really boring and should be regular Spongebob episodes, and ones that shouldn't be here at all. Have You Seen This Snail? , is around the first catagory.

Come on, this has to be my favorite episode of all time. Saddest and greatest episode EVER made. Period. Aaron Springer is a great writer, and I don't care what anyone else says.

It's my favourite Spongebob episode ever! I love it!

3 Dunces and Dragons

We all knew this would be high on the list. And why not? This is probably the best parody ever made by a cartoon in general. Who doesn't love the old story of "epic hero goes through several trials to rescue damsel in distress? " The damsel in distress bit is overdone when it's only that bit, but add everything else and some great humor and you've got yourself a comedic story. My only complaint is the ending, where Squidly is there. If the whole thing had only been a dream, then this would earn the top spot. But nope, we get that, and that is why this is #2.

By far the best special. I find myself singing the songs often, and the character design is great. When people say that post movie Spongebob is awful, this proves them wrong. I love Dungeons and Dragons, which makes this episode very funny to me. And it was also made two days before my birthday! It is a great special, which should be number one

How is this not number one? This is my favorite post movie episode, favorite special and can possibly compete with seasons 1-3

I love the songs in this episode. It's very entertaining to see spongebob in the mid evil times

4 Friend or Foe?

This episode is an amazing one. We had all wanted explained to us the rivalry between Mr. Krabs and Plankton, and here we get just that. It turns out they tried to carry on the legacy of a millionaire (who for some reason hands kids burgers in an old shack dressed as a bum) by creating their own recipe. And the Patchy segments are rather amusing, especially Patchy and Potty's bickering and finally making up at the end.

5 It's a SpongeBob Christmas!

We all know this episode is a breath of fresh air from the worse days of modern SpongeBob. But you know how good it was? It aired on CBS. The stop motion is decent for a T.V. show. I mean, it's not The Nightmare Before Christmas (another good Christmas special), but it's still good to watch. For once, the jerkiness of the citizens is excused because Plankton used SpongeBob to give them all a fruitcake laced with "jerktonium" that turned anyone who ate it into a huge jerk.

I Love This Special so Much, even to the Point were I Love it More than Christmas Who? Which is Saying Something

It is my all time favourite SpongeBob episode.

Bring joy to the world; it's the thing to do
But the world does not revolve around you
Don't be a jerk
It's Christmas

There's a sign above the line that says "Express"
That means ten items or less
Don't be a jerk (don't be a jerk)
It's Christmas

Be nice to babies and animals, old folks too
b ecause that's how you'd like them to treat you
Use turn signals, don't screen my calls
Don't you wreck the house when you deck the halls

Spit your gum where it won't wind up on my shoe
Squeeze toothpaste from the bottom of the tube.
Don't be a jerk (don't be a jerk)
It's Christmas

It's Christmas!

When others are talking never interrupt
Don't put people down or leave the toilet seat up
It's the time for family and holly and Turkey
'Tis the season to be jolly not jerky (jolly not jerky)

Don't dig in the cereal box for goodness sakes
Take the prize and leave me nothing but flakes
Don't be a jerk ...more

6 Shanghaied

Why wasn't this on the list in the first place? It's 20 minutes, so it's considered a special. I know there's another episode that's with it (Gary takes a bath). But it's only 6 minutes.

7 Hello Bikini Bottom

I really enjoyed this special because the songs are great to listen to especially the never give up song at the end. the running gag when the old man was saying it was too loud and when squidward and spongebob try to play the song more quietly he still said it was too loud! so funny.

This should be higher it has two songs worthy of my top ten songs and the plot is so great this my favriot

8 Frozen Face Off

My fave season 8 episode my top 5 season 8 episodes were 5: the krabby patty that ate bikini bottom 4: planet of the jellyfish 3: hello bikini bottom 2: it's a SB Christmas 1: frozen face-off

This one and Hello Bikini Bottom are my favorite specials

9 SpongeBob SquarePants vs The Big One

This episode has its fair share of problems but at the same time it has some good qualities that really work, like Davy Jones' Locker. I mean, who doesn't laugh with the jolly old man who throws his socks at people in his locker? And J.K.L.? He's voiced by Johnny Depp for God's sake! How could you not like that? But my problem with this episode? There is little to no humor to speak of. Barely any jokes exist and the ones that do just don't work, so I have to keep it down here.

10 The Sponge Who Could Fly

Ah yes, this episode. This episode has a creative setup with the Patchy segments, where he has to find a buried tape containing "the lost episode" of the show. And when SpongeBob starts flying, we get a good musical number. But why is it this low? The citizens are complete jerks to SpongeBob. There's doubt and then there's cynicism, and sadly they crossed that line.

Patchy segments were bad.

The Contenders
11 The Legend of Boo-Kini Bottom

Great set-up, great plot lines, great song, and an amazing Halloween special for Spongebob

12 SpongeBob's Last Stand
13 Scaredy Pants

This episode is good in its own rights, but not the most memorable. There are some good jokes like Patrick trying to guess SpongeBob's costume (spoiler: it's a ghost costume made out of a sheet). What bumps it down here ultimately is the ending, where SpongeBob's brain is visible and his body is slimmed out into a cylinder. That ending makes no sense whatsoever. It did, however, introduce us to the Flying Dutchman as a character (his first actual appearance was on a newspaper in Squidward the Unfriendly Ghost), so it gets to be on this list.

This is not a special

14 Atlantis SquarePantis

It has a Mario 64 reference for God's sake! I adore this special and I do enjoy the songs but I can see why people aren't really into this one.

Yay Atlantis SquarePantis!

15 Ugh

This episode was a weird step from what SpongeBob normally did at the time, but they didn't exactly hit the mark. Sure, the song "When Worlds Collide" was pretty enjoyable, for the most part, the gag with Squog (prehistoric Squidward) sliding across prehistoric Gary's slime almost goes on as long as a Family Guy joke, but at least there's something going on in the foreground to distract from said gag.

16 Valentine's Day

This episode has the same problem as Scaredy Pants: solid episode, but not very memorable. The reason it's higher on the list than Scaredy Pants: there is one scene that is very memorable (and maybe a bit of foreshadowing towards the later seasons). That would be Patrick's flip out. Who doesn't remember "HEART ON STICK MUST DIE! " That was surprisingly dark at the time it came out, but unfortunately, the rest isn't too memorable, so that is why it remains at number eight.

Was This Even a Special? It Felt Like an 11 Minute Episode just based off a Holiday

Come on this episode is not a special along with scaredy pants

This is not a special!

17 Ghoul Fools

I like this episode. The song is good, and it's nice to see that the Flying Dutchman gets a a cameo

18 The Great Patty Caper

Wasnt great, but deffidently better than atlantis squarepantis or truth or square

19 Goodbye, Krabby Patty
20 Squid Noir
21 Goons On the Moon
22 Truth or Square SpongeBob's Truth or Square is a 2009 made-for-television comedy special and an hour-long episode of the American animated television series SpongeBob SquarePants

Such a nostalgic special for me. I watched this when I was about 5-6 years old and really liked it. But I felt bad for patchy the pirate because of the whale part.

While is was a Huge Disappointment to Many, It was Very Entertaining in my Opinion, Seeing Bikini Bottom Before SpongeBob was quite Cool

The Patchy segments are so stupid you have to love it.

Eehhh...I didn't care for it. I'm glad ChiefMudkip can enjoy it though.
