Most Surprising NFL Teams of 2017-18 After Week 8

Randomator
With the season officially halfway over here we have the teams that have shocked us either good or bad as of Week 8 in what has been a very bizarre season thus far.

The Top Ten

1 Baltimore Ravens Baltimore Ravens The Baltimore Ravens are a professional American football team based in Baltimore, Maryland. The Ravens compete in the National Football League as a member club of the American Football Conference North division.

I expected the Ravens to win against the Dolphins but I definitely didn't expect a 40-0 blowout. Especially after Flacco got a concussion. I can't decide if Baltimore was just explosive on offense or if Miami just completely sucked. I'm going with the latter. - Randomator

I would tend to agree, I think Miami had a meltdown at every level. The Ravens smelt blood in the water and simply pounced. The Ravens have been inconsistent, but we all know the talent on defense at least is there. It will be interesting to see if the Miami game will be a starting point, or just another spike in a crazy NFL season. - Ned964

2 Oakland Raiders Oakland Raiders The Oakland Raiders are a professional American football franchise based in Oakland, California. The Raiders began playing in 1960 as a member club of the American Football League; they have been a member club of the National Football League since the 1970 AFL–NFL merger.

One week after handing Kansas City their second loss in a row in a last second fashion they looked absolutely sloppy against the Bills of all teams. Overall they have been disappointing thus far. They seem to be lacking the star power they had last year. - Randomator

Many of us expected the Raiders to be doing better, but the defense is just brutal. For too many years the NFL rules allowed teams with wide open attacks to prosper. I think NFL defenses have caught up to that trend of pass happy, no defense NFL teams, and the Raiders are stuck until they do something about stopping good teams from scoring so much. You can't win a shootout every week, and even if you do, it won't get you anywhere in the playoffs - Ned964

3 Tampa Bay Buccaneers Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Bucs had some hype going into this season but have been a major disappointment. You'd think they would have more than 2 wins and put up more than a field goal against the Panthers(which would have tied the game against Buffalo by the way) but no. The ship is sinking fast for Tampa. Jameis Winston going down just adds further insult to injury. - Randomator

Again, a team expected to have a very good offense, remember Winston bragging about all the weapons he had in the pre season? I expected them to score a lot as well, but it just hasn't clicked. Combine that with the terrible defense and you get this. I do think they have some talent on defense so maybe they can right the ship next year, but this year appears lost. - Ned964

4 Miami Dolphins Miami Dolphins The Miami Dolphins are a professional American football franchise located in the Miami metropolitan area.

I'm still baffled that they were absolutely humiliated by a barely above average Ravens squad and they didn't even need Jay Cutler to do it. And they took Flacco out of the game and still lost! Now that I think about it this game sums up the Dolphins season perfectly. No matter what happens the Dolphins failed in every way. - Randomator

The Ajayi trade was also weird to me. The Dolphins traded their best running weapon for a for a fourth round draft pick. I still fail to understand the logic of that - Randomator

5 Buffalo Bills Buffalo Bills The Buffalo Bills are a professional American football team based in the Buffalo–Niagara Falls metropolitan area that competes in the National Football League.

The Bills suddenly clicked on offense and won over a Raiders team that looked sloppy to say the least. What surprises me the most about Buffalo is that they have actually kept pace with the Pats. Don't look now but if they keep this up could Buffalo finally make the playoffs again? - Randomator

We have all seen this before. Taylor has a great overall game, Shady runs like a man possessed and they look formidable. But who did they beat? A Raiders team that struggled in the cold rain at Buffalo. Look, I've got friends in Buffalo, and would love to see them turn it around, I just have my reservations. That being said, the schedule remaining does not look too bad, so maybe we can watch them in the playoffs again. Also, some good trades have left them with a lot of early picks in next year's draft, so there's a chance to become relevant again. - Ned964

6 Cincinnati Bengals Cincinnati Bengals The Cincinnati Bengals are a professional American football franchise based in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Bengals currently compete in the National Football League as a member club of the league's American Football Conference North division.

The Bengals game was one where neither team was very good but someone had to win. What surprised me is that Cincy needed an interception and a rally to beat the Colts by one point. One would think that they could beat the Colts by more than they did - Randomator

Yeah, they were pretty bad last year, so I'm not too surprised they are bad again. They have a good foundation of players so maybe they can get this turned around in a couple years - Ned964

7 Atlanta Falcons Atlanta Falcons The Atlanta Falcons are a professional American football team based in Atlanta, Georgia. The Falcons compete in the National Football League as a member club of the league's National Football Conference South division.

To me Atlanta was lucky to get a win. They made some crucial mistakes. It may or may not have been the weathers fault but to be on the fence after the halfway mark is so shocking especially after the great super bowl run last year. It seems like since the 3rd quarter of the super bowl they have completely collapsed. - Randomator

With a must win game the Falcons once again for the second time this season get assisted by the 10 second run-off for another what if game screw job. - htoutlaws2012

8 Houston Texans Houston Texans The Houston Texans are a professional American football team based in Houston, Texas. The team competes in the National Football League as a member club of the American Football Conference South division.

For the first time I actually believed in Deshawn Watson. The Texans played a legitimate game against Seattle. Watson looked like Russel Wilson Jr. They might have lost but man they put up a hell of a fight. Watson may very well be on his way to an MVP award or rookie of the year award. He has definitely made a strong case - Randomator

To me the Texans were not losers to me they played with no quit they came soaring back to back with Seattle in a thrilling classic. The offense is something to see meanwhile the defense takes the massive hit as I expected them to be, but the fact Watson got almost 40 on the Seahawks to me was very shocking to see. - htoutlaws2012

9 New York Jets New York Jets The New York Jets are a professional American football team located in the New York metropolitan area.

The Jets were at least competitive against Atlanta. Neither team really played good but New York surprised us by keeping it close - Randomator

For their sakes the Jets should start losing, and fast. I think it is inevitable but the more they win, the lower they draft, and the harder it is to fill the many holes on this roster. - Ned964

I'm still confused as to what exactly the Jets are doing. Are they tanking or not? They already have 4 wins. If they are supposedly tanking they better be careful - Randomator

Are they really tanking or not? That's the question. Make up your mind Jets - Gametheorysucks

10 Washington Redskins Washington Redskins The Washington Redskins are a professional American football team based in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.

The Contenders

11 Seattle Seahawks Seattle Seahawks The Seattle Seahawks are a professional American football franchise based in Seattle, Washington. The Seahawks compete in the National Football League as a member club of the league's National Football Conference West division.

Remember the Russel Wilson from a few years ago? Well he returned to that form once again against the Texans. Both teams played a good game of football. Seattle was able to rally behind Wilson to edge Houston. The division is still theirs to lose. - Randomator

A fun game to watch. But just like any team, Seattle's defense was on the field far too long and they got lit up by Watson and company. The trade for Duane Brown was a smart one for the Seabirds, maybe they can stabilize the offense moving forward. - Ned964

Great game from Wilson

12 Minnesota Vikings Minnesota Vikings The Minnesota Vikings are an American football team based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Vikings joined the National Football League as an expansion team in 1960, and first took the field for the 1961 season.

With all the issues at QB, I must admit Case Keenum has played very well. Still, I feel they have had a fairly easy schedule this far, and not having to face Aaron Rodgers for 3/4 of the Green Bay game also worked to their advantage. The schedule gets tougher now, but with the bye, a healthy Teddy Bridgewater and a very good defense, the Vikings might just have caught some breaks that help them take a huge step forward. - Ned964

13 Philadelphia Eagles Philadelphia Eagles The Philadelphia Eagles are a professional football franchise based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Eagles compete in the National Football League as a member club of the league's National Football Conference East division.

Have we all lost sight of the amazing start the Eags have had? I personally think it's the most surprising after any week so far. They say Wentz was not on top of his game this week, and they had the luxury of playing a bad 49ers team. That's all true, but they still did what they had to do to win convincingly. Like all of us, I somehow keep expecting the bottom to fall out, but the facts are starting to pile up, this is a good team. They still have the 2 games with Dallas, but they are in great shape - Ned964

I'm not jumping on Philly's bandwagon just yet. Knowing that they are Philadelphia they could still fail. I'm waiting for them to clinch the division and number one seed first - Randomator

14 Jacksonville Jaguars Jacksonville Jaguars The Jacksonville Jaguars are an American professional football franchise based in Jacksonville, Florida.

Someone had dubbed them in an earlier week as a "Jekyll and Hyde" team, and I would say that still is true, we just don't know what to expect each week. Still, this team is absolutely loaded with young talent, and I think if the organization and coaching staff do there job well, the future is very bright for them. - Ned964

You're welcome, and I notice that they do have an established running game, and also the defense when they do click play with a lot of potential. - htoutlaws2012

Jacksonville is really a tale of two teams. We either see the team that has playoff potential or the old Jags we have seen up until now. I'm still not seeing playoffs for them but if they keep it up then next year for sure - Gametheorysucks

15 Tennessee Titans Tennessee Titans The Tennessee Titans are a professional American football team based in Nashville, Tennessee. The Titans compete in the National Football League as a member club of the American Football Conference South division.

Read my comments for the Jaguars, the same applies here. - Ned964

Titans offense has looked bland this year so far, and one key to making the playoffs is by having at least 4-2 record in your respective division Titans beat quality opponents last year mind you why are they taking a step back? - htoutlaws2012

16 Los Angeles Rams Los Angeles Rams The Los Angeles Rams are a professional American football team based in the Los Angeles metropolitan area.

There are still some major holes on this team, but the great young talent outside of that tells me they too are close to being very good. Make that O line great and this team would be very formidable - Ned964

If you can build like a great wall like of a Dallas or a Pittsburgh then this could oppose as a threat to Seattle for years. Definitely a surprise team this year. - htoutlaws2012

17 Green Bay Packers Green Bay Packers The Green Bay Packers are a professional American football team based in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The Packers compete in the National Football League as a member club of the league's National Football Conference North division.

Obviously the Packers lost Aaron Rodgers, which left them without the centerpiece of their entire team. Nothing is going great since Rodgers went down, but I think that's indicative of how bad they are outside of Rodgers. They have an opportunity to get better in those weak areas and be a force when/if Rodgers returns, there remaining schedule is quite favorable. - Ned964

Without Rodgers they are basically screwed. I think that they have somewhat ignored the other injuries because they had Rodgers but with him out the other injuries on this team really hurt them - Randomator
