2 Toradora!
Toradora! is a series of Japanese light novels written by Yuyuko Takemiya, with illustrations by Yasu. It received an anime adaptation directed by Tatsuyuki Nagai and produced by J.C.Staff that ran from 2008-2009. The show that made me fall in love with anime, and I show I make sure to watch at least once a year.
3 Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day
Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day is a Japanese anime television series that aired in 2011. The show focuses on a group of childhood friends who drift apart after the death of one of their own but are later reunited with the aim to fulfill her final wish. It is widely praised for its emotional depth, complex characters, and realistic portrayal of grief and loss. Anohana has been well-received both critically and commercially, spawning a feature film and novel adaptations. Yet another soul crusher, but Anohana gives you this really odd melancholic feel while watching it.
4 Your Lie In April
Your Lie in April, known in Japan as Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso or just simply Kimiuso, is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Naoshi Arakawa. Positively soul crushing, but every scene is just a master class of animation.
5 Chihayafuru
Chihayafuru is a manga series written and illustrated by Yuki Suetsugu, serialised in Be Love and published by Kodansha. The best sports show out there. Great characters and fantastic animation.
6 Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu
The newest show on the list. This show is just flat-out gripping and enjoyable from start to finish.
7 Hyouka
Airing in 2012, this anime series is adapted from a mystery novel by Honobu Yonezawa. The narrative focuses on a high school boy who joins a literature club and ends up solving various mysteries. The show is praised for its subtle storytelling and detailed animation. Absolutely breathtaking visuals and a plot that makes you just as curious as the female lead.
8 Baby Steps
Albeit not the best paced sports show, I cannot help but become invested every time I watch Maruo in action.
9 Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood
A show that manages to sneak it's way onto most people's best of anime lists. Entertaining, well-paced, and full of fantastic characters.
10 Sakamichi no Apollon
The best musical direction in a show. Short, simple, and effective.
The Contenders
11 Kaguya-sama: Love is War
Realistically, a large majority of the honorable mentions could easily sneak into the Top 10 depending on current mood. This is the best currently airing show.
12 School Rumble
The best older comedy show.

Black Lagoon (stylized in all caps) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Rei Hiroe. It has been published in Shogakukan's seinen manga magazine Monthly Sunday Gene-X since April 2002, with its chapters collected in twelve tankōbon volumes as of August 2021. In North America, the manga is licensed for English release by Viz Media.
