Top 10 Best Attack On Titan Episodes
Here is a list of the top 10 episodes of Attack on Titan. Please be rational when voting or commenting. This list does not include the manga, so apologies for that.
Sorry if this list doesn't match your own. Spoilers ahead!
I chose this episode as the first because it introduces fan favorite, Levi. Of course, it didn't fully "introduce" him, as we didn't learn much from his brief appearance in Episode 9. Another reason I chose this episode is that it gives us insight into how the Attack on Titan world operates, especially in terms of Eren's situation and the relationship between the Military Police and the Survey Corps. Finally, I feel this episode is one of the most tense in the series, besides Episode 23.
As I mentioned before, Episode 23 is one of the tensest episodes, with Eren going to court again and Armin devising a plan with Annie to take Eren back. We also discover the Female Titan's identity: Annie. And that laugh, though.

The first episode of Attack on Titan ranks fourth. Although most people already had an idea of what the show was about, the appearance of the Colossus Titan was still incredibly shocking. Eren's mom's death, especially his reaction to it, was one of the saddest things I've ever watched.
The ninth episode of Attack on Titan reveals what happened to Eren after he got eaten and includes a brief scene of Levi's squad retaking a town from the Titans. It's quite intense, with Eren and Kitz Weilman arguing, and then Kitz finally firing at Eren, Mikasa, and Armin.
The final episode of Attack on Titan Season 1 is epically suspenseful and a fantastic conclusion to the season. Annie's memories of her father, along with the intense fight and struggle, make this episode great.
This is the episode where Eren gets eaten. Already, everyone else with Eren (besides Armin) had deaths that sent a shiver down my spine. Armin's reaction to Eren's "death" is initially extremely depressing, but the more you watch it, the more it becomes strangely hilarious.
I don't know...
In both dubs, Armin's laugh was really funny and...adorable. This scene quickly became a meme generator, and his scream always makes me laugh.
Watching Eren get eaten shocked me so much. I really thought he had died.
This episode is very new, so it hasn't gotten the recognition it deserves on this list yet. However, if you check IMDb, it's the highest-rated episode.
I only came here to vote for this episode. It really deserves to be number 1.
The second episode, sadly, didn't make it into the top five, but it's close. While it doesn't have as much action as Episode 1, it still offers a lot, including Hannes and Eren's talk, the boat ride to Wall Rose, Eren kicking a soldier, and Eren, Mikasa, and Armin all fighting (which Mikasa ends). They also join the Training Corps in this episode. You could argue more happens in this episode than in the first, but it's more of an "after" than a "what happened."
Armin's plan was amazing to watch. He used Eren's Titan to defeat other Titans, while Jean led a group to get more gas for their gear. This episode also revealed Eren as a Titan-Shifter. And Mikasa's reaction? One word: adorable.
The Newcomers
This was the episode where Eren joined the Scouts, and we were introduced to Hange. In my opinion, it was one of the funniest episodes, especially when Hange was telling Eren about Bean and Sonny.
I feel this is one of the smartest episodes with some really cool shots. After eight very serious episodes, we finally get some happy moments (and some very sad ones). All the dialogue is super interesting. We finally see Ymir and Historia again. Also, the name is revealed in a unique way, as ever (thanks, Yams). This is probably my favorite episode of the show so far.
The episode before this, Episode 12, could maybe be an honorable mention, but it didn't have as much impact as this episode. Eren breaks out and takes back Trost from the Titans by closing the hole. Jean, Marco, Connie, and Annie have a moment. Levi saves the Trio from two Titans. And I cried when Marco's body was found.
There were so many epic moments in this episode.
After watching No Regrets and then rewatching this episode and Episode 21, one can only imagine the pain and grief that Levi must be experiencing, losing his closest comrades all over again. If the episode's insinuations are to be believed, Petra was planning to marry the captain, which adds another layer of agony to Levi's character. Yet, despite all he has suffered - more than anyone else in the show - Levi gives up his personal sentiment by handing Petra's patch (the last connection he has to her) to a random soldier, just to bring him some comfort.
A truly heart-wrenching episode.
Eren vs. the Female Titan in the forest was an awesome fight!
I won't spoil anything for you, but please pay close attention to Ymir's backstory. The storytelling is excellent, and the visuals and soundtrack are amazing, especially just after she wakes up as a human. It's one of the most heartwarming parts of the whole anime. I haven't read the manga, but I've seen forums where manga fans were surprised to see this animated so soon (Ymir's backstory appears much later in the manga), but the timing feels just right. I would easily put this episode in my top 5.
