Best Elfen Lied Characters

The Top Ten
Lucy Lucy (born as kaede), is a tragic, fictional Japanese Anti-Heroine, and Anti-Villianess, who is the main protagonist of her debut source, a manga officially known as Elfen Lied [alfen leed], written and illustrated by Lynn Okamoto, which was best known for it's T.V. adaptation of the same name, Directed... read more

I was pretty young when I watched Elfen Lied, not because I intended to, but because my elder cousin would put it on TV in the room that all the youngsters shared on trips. He was shameless. Anyway, I didn't understand the plot that much. I was just terrified of Lucy, no matter what she did. I was convinced throughout the show that I really didn't like her. But when she died, I was genuinely depressed, and I was dazed for an entire week thinking about the poor girl. Damn, I felt for her. She was so darn tragic. What little solace she sought was found in Kouta, but nothing went well for her.

On a side note, Bando's appearance made me like Lucy even more. I couldn't stand that character. He made me scared as well as mad. He posed as a hero, but I detested the way he treated all the women around him so harshly and unreasonably. He had to kill Lucy for a reason, but I just didn't like him, and I couldn't sympathize with him no matter what. That made me root for Lucy. Biased, I know.

Nana

Nana is so cute! I love her sweet and happy personality.

She's the cutest character in the whole series.

Kurama

He is the character I identify and sympathize with. His story is one of the most tragic and conflicted I have ever seen. In addition, he has well-developed relationships with so many other protagonists in the story. I love this guy. To create such an amazing and elaborate character, thanks, Elfen Lied.

Mayu
Bando

Bando is by far my favorite character in Elfen Lied. He is one of the main reasons why I like the series so much. He joined the Special Assault Team (SAT) just so he could legally murder people. Bando might appear to be an aggressive jerk at the beginning of Elfen Lied, but later on, he turns out to be a hero. Bando tries to save humanity by killing Lucy. Even when Bando lost a fight to Lucy and was heavily injured, he didn't give up. He kept trying to kill Lucy, which proves he is extremely goal-oriented. Bando is the best character Elfen Lied has and is actually one of the best characters in any series I know. He deserves more screen time.

I am actually surprised to see that Bando wasn't even in the top 10. I thought he would be first or second on the list.

Kouta

In my opinion, whether the male lead is trash or excellent, I always choose him. Even in School Days and Future Diary.

Mariko

Best character ever and the strongest too!

Yuka
Nyu

Nyu is adorable! Lucy is first, but Nyu is just the cuter, more kawaii, and better version!

Kaede

Kaede is so cute! She is way too underrated and deserves much more screen time. Whenever I think of how she died, I tear up. Her last words to her brother were, "I hate you." She died thinking that her brother didn't trust her and didn't care about what she said.

It's kind of like Glimmer from The Hunger Games, dying knowing that no one would care if you died and that your life could be sacrificed without anyone giving a thought.

Okay, this is Elfen Lied, not The Hunger Games, so I'll shut up.

The Contenders
Director Kakuzawa
Lucy's Puppy
Professor Kakuzawa
Nozomi

Not only is she adorably shy, but she's also incredibly selfless and determined to make her dreams come true despite her humiliating medical issues. Some people look down on her for them and feel that they make her unworthy of being taken seriously as a person. But when you think about it, that exact reaction is how the Diclonii are treated in the series. Neither horns nor diapers are reasons to ostracize others.
