Top 10 Funniest Animes

The Top Ten
  1. Hetalia: Axis Powers

Hetalia: Axis Powers is a Japanese webcomic-turned-anime created by Hidekaz Himaruya that debuted in 2009. The series anthropomorphizes countries and depicts them as characters interacting in both humorous and historical scenarios, primarily set during World War I and World War II.... read more

Hetalia has made me laugh until my sides hurt, especially the dub (it's one of the few anime where I can say that the dub is better than the sub). If you didn't know, the show is about anthropomorphic countries, with most of the countries turned into hot men. The show focuses on what historical events would be like if they were people, with much of it centering around WWII.

America, in particular, has made me laugh so hard that I've started crying. All of the other characters are also very funny. You should really give Hetalia a try if you're looking for a super funny anime!

Oh man, Hetalia is the only anime to have me laughing so hard that I'm crying. Almost all of the characters are hysterically funny, and since the show is about the countries of the world as people, they have some of the countries stereotyped perfectly. America is a very good example.

This anime is definitely a show to watch if you want a really funny comedy!

  2. Gintama

Gin Tama, also styled as Gintama, is a Japanese manga written and illustrated by Hideaki Sorachi, serialized beginning on December 8, 2003, in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump. The series is known for its blend of comedy, action, and science fiction set in an alternate-history Edo period. It was adapted... read more

Gintama will hit you hard when you least expect it. When you are laughing your ass off, it will throw in some emotional stuff. When you're crying, it will throw in comedy at the perfect time. And when you feel like it's just some lighthearted filler episode, it will shift into an intense fight scene and awesome plot to throw you off balance. That's Gintama for ya.

It takes some time to get going and get used to, but once it hits, it's funny as all hell. A lot of the jokes will be lost in translation since many of them are very Japan-centric, but for every one of those, there are a million others that will still leave you laughing out loud.

  3. Ouran High School Host Club

Ouran High School Host Club is a manga series by Bisco Hatori, serialized in Hakusensha's LaLa magazine from September 2002 to November 2010. The story follows a group of attractive male students who entertain female clients in a host club setting at the prestigious Ouran Academy.... read more

You just have to look at all their, how should I put this, 'bright' personalities. Kyoya-senpai is just so mean, Honey-senpai is adorable, Mori-senpai is the tough cool guy, but Honey breaks that. The twins are so perverted and creepy, Tamaki is just something of his own design, and Haruhi is the most oblivious person you could ever meet.

I swear to anime god, this could possibly be the first anime that has literally made me laugh so hard it hurt.

  4. Nichijou

Airing in 2011, Nichijou is a Japanese anime based on a manga by Keiichi Arawi. Unlike typical plot-driven shows, it focuses on the surreal and comedic daily lives of three high school girls. It received praise for its inventive animation techniques and absurdist humor.

This is a perfect example of making the most of an absurd animation budget. They make jokes like most slice-of-life comedies, but when the joke normally would stop, they just keep going until it reaches the point of absolute, physics-breaking insanity.

This series is what made me think to myself, "That's it. I need to watch more slice-of-life anime." I still have yet to find one that tops Nichijou, and I know for sure that I will never get bored with this anime, no matter how many times I re-watch it. Why couldn't my ordinary life be like this?

Yukko is possibly one of the funniest people you could ever even imagine being in a high school anime. The plot isn't really there, but it's just so adorable, cute, and random. It's so cute and funny that the characters themselves make up for it.

The Professor and Nano are a whole different story. You just need to watch this if you haven't already. To those who have watched it, places hand on your shoulder* you know. You just know what I'm talking about, so please write your own vote because this needs to be at the top.

  5. Soul Eater

Soul Eater is an anime series directed by Takuya Igarashi and produced by Bones, Aniplex, Dentsu, Media Factory, and TV Tokyo. It adapts the Soul Eater manga written and illustrated by Atsushi Ohkubo. The anime aired in Japan from April 2008 to March 2009.

I love it when Death the Kid loses his mind when there's asymmetry.

  6. Fairy Tail

Fairy Tail is a manga franchise created by Hiro Mashima. It was adapted into an anime series produced by A-1 Pictures and Satelight, which first aired in Japan on October 12, 2009. The franchise also includes several original video animations and a feature film titled Fairy Tail the Movie: Phoenix Priestess... read more

I love Fairy Tail like crazy, and I think it's super funny. It's my second favorite anime, and I'm glad I watched it because the characters are so different and well put together. The anime is amazing.

For me, Fairy Tail is pretty goofy and is probably one of the few things that make me like this show. Even though I'm not a fan, I still find it entertaining because of the humor.

It's really funny as well as action-packed. Every character has a special and widely distinguishable sense of humor.

  7. One Punch Man

One-Punch Man is a webcomic created by ONE in 2009 that was later adapted into both a manga and an anime series. It gained widespread popularity and went viral in 2012, amassing millions of views. The story follows Saitama, who is named after Saitama Prefecture, as he seeks an opponent strong enough... read more

100 sit-ups, 100 squats, 100 push-ups, eat three meals a day, and a banana for breakfast is fine. Don't use the AC in the summer, and don't use the heater in the winter to strengthen the mind.

Before even punching, you already expect what would happen, and you cannot stop laughing just before and after the punch.

Godly. The whole freaking anime is just so funny.

  8. Angel Beats!

Angel Beats! is a 13-episode Japanese anime television series produced by P.A. Works and Aniplex. It was directed by Seiji Kishi and written by Jun Maeda. The series features a story set in the afterlife and blends action, comedy, and drama.

It is very funny, but really sad at the same time. My favorite anime!

I chose Angel Beats! (I also love Ouran High School Host Club, but this was so far down on the list) because the rocket chairs made me laugh uncontrollably! Although this is a sad anime (like Your Lie In April), it brings joy when the characters help each other and try to accomplish their dreams (which most of them do).

  9. Prison School

The funniest anime I've ever seen and the only one that's made me cry laugh. Gakuto... I salute you, you loyal man.

  10. Baka and Test

Oh my god, it's so funny! It shouldn't be 19th. It should be 1st! The characters are well-developed, the art is amazing, and each of the characters is funny in their own way. It doesn't have too much fanservice (though there is a little). Overall, this should surpass at the very least Fairy Tail.

Hands down, one of the funniest animes ever made. Every character is hilarious, and the episodes get funnier and funnier every second. It never gets old, and it definitely deserves to be placed among the ranks of School Rumble and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.

The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.

    Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma

Shokugeki no Sōma (also known as Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma) is a Japanese manga series written by Yūto Tsukuda and illustrated by Shun Saeki, with Yuki Morisaki providing culinary supervision. The story follows Sōma Yukihira, a confident and talented amateur chef who enrolls in the elite Tōtsuki... read more

  14. The Contenders
  15. Ghost Stories

Ghost Stories isn't your typical anime. It was originally a really bland and boring kids' horror anime in Japan, but it was received so poorly there that they told the English dubbers they could do whatever they wanted. Because of this, a masterpiece was born (ONLY if you watch it in the dub version).

Beautiful. I'd put this right after Hetalia on my Top Ten comedy list. Lemme tell you, the top tens on this list aren't even really funny.

OHSHC? Great anime, but not funny enough to top Ghost Stories. Soul Eater? I love DTK, but seriously? Not that funny, or good for that matter!

  16. Assassination Classroom

Assassination Classroom is a Japanese manga and anime series created by Yūsei Matsui. The series debuted in 2012 and follows a class of underachieving students who must assassinate their teacher, a powerful, octopus-like creature named Koro-sensei, before he destroys Earth. It blends elements of comedy... read more

The only anime that has made me fall out of my chair laughing. RIP Koro Sensei.

  17. Katekyo Hitman Reborn!

Reborn!, known in Japan as Katekyō Hitman Reborn! (Japanese: 家庭教師ヒットマンREBORN!, Hepburn: Katekyō Hittoman Ribōn!), and also known as Hitman Reborn!, is an action-packed Japanese anime series based on the manga of the same name, written and illustrated by Akira Amano.... read more

  18. School Rumble

Around episode 5, it picks up, and you can't stop watching after that. It's flat-out hilarious. I don't think there is a character you can dislike. There are some perverted moments, but they are funny afterward. Nothing is dull about this anime.

One of the funniest animes ever. Period. The characters are hysterical, and the situations Tenma and Harima get themselves into never stop being funny. And when it's not being funny, it's a great story and proves very touching at times. Definitely worth watching.

Funniest anime I've ever seen, and I've seen plenty.

  19. Lucky Star

Lucky Star is a slice-of-life anime television series that originally aired in Japan from April 8, 2007, to September 16, 2007. The story follows the everyday lives of four high school girls: Konata Izumi, Kagami Hiiragi, Tsukasa Hiiragi, and Miyuki Takara. It is known for its charming "moe" characters... read more

  20. Saiki Kusuo no Psi-nan

One of my favorite animes ever. You into cliché edgy anime husbandos? Watch this right now.

One of the funniest things you'll ever see.

  21. KonoSuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World!

KonoSuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World!, often shortened to KonoSuba, is a Japanese light novel series written by Natsume Akatsuki. The story centers on Kazuma Satou, a teenage boy who dies and is transported to a fantasy world with MMORPG elements.... read more

I saw some people watching the first episode of this anime when I was in my English class for tutoring. It's kind of like Sword Art Online (don't get me wrong, I still love it, but I just thought about how it's similar to KonoSuba), but with tons of comedy. The characters are really hilarious, and I really like Kazuma and Aqua. I so have to watch this anime!

Probably one of the funniest animes I have watched, as literally every episode made me laugh.

The incompetence of the main characters makes for some solid comedic moments.

  22. Blood Lad

  23. One Piece

One Piece is a manga franchise created by Eiichiro Oda. The manga was adapted into an original video animation (OVA) produced by Production I.G in 1998. The anime series produced by Toei Animation began broadcasting in Japan in 1999 and, as of now, has aired 851 episodes.

Luffy is probably the funniest out of all of them. I like his high energy.

The funniest anime of all time. Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, Chopper, and Brook make it funny.

The funniest anime, mostly because of Zoro's bad sense of direction. Yohohohohohohoho.

  24. Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou

  25. Kokoro Connect

I had to add this. Watch episode 4, and you will know why.

  26. Golden Boy

  27. Azumanga Daioh

Azumanga Daioh (あずまんが大王, Hepburn: Azumanga Daiō) is a Japanese four-panel comic strip (yonkoma) manga written and illustrated by Kiyohiko Azuma. It was serialized from February 1999 to May 2002 in the monthly magazine Dengeki Daioh published by MediaWorks. Three additional chapters were later released... read more

I am absolutely disgusted that this isn't in the top 3. It's not only the funniest anime ever, it's one of the funniest pieces of animation ever.

The most air-headed anime. Cannot forget this! I want a season 2 where they somehow end up in the same college - just kidding, there's no story like that.

  28. Fooly Cooly

  29. Sket Dance

For me, Sket Dance shows us really funny moments. I mean, in each episode, who wouldn't laugh? I like that this anime doesn't only focus on comedy but has a serious side. *cough* (The episodes of Bossun, Himeko, and Switch) I would really recommend this to you if you're looking for comedy.

The life of a try-hard club with sad backstories that make their present stories so funny.
