Gohan is not a supporting character, he is supposed to be the main protagonist. He became the most powerful character during the Cell saga, and in the Buu saga they wanted to pull Goku out, so Gohan can be the lead character, but due to pressure from fans they decided to keep him. Gohan is not a supporting character, Goku is more of a support than Gohan.
