Top Ten Facts About Metal Elitists/Elitism

Decided to make this list because i have noticed it has been misused very often here in TheTopTens, users using the Term ''Metal Elitists/Elitism'' without having much knowledge on it.
The Top Ten
1 There are many kinds of metal elitists/elitism

There are different kinds of posers and elitists. They're more umbrella terms.

2 They often don't only listen to metal

Well, good to know that open minded Metal elitists exist. Just learned something new today I guess.

They might have, but rarely appreciates them & thinks Metal is objectively superior to them

3 They usually don't hate everything that's mainstream

I still think the majority does. There is a small group within metal who even hate famous metal bands that are otherwise very influential just because they're "mainstream" and refuse to listen to anything that's not a bedroom black metal band who sold 10 copies.

The metalheads who are open to other genres typically listen to non-extreme subgenres, and thus aren't considered as such by certain fellow metalheads

4 The term "metal elitism" is very broad and can mean lots of things

Poser: Someone who poses as something that they are not really just for the attention. eg. people that call themselves metalheads after listening to only one Linkin Park song, or someone who only listens to Cannibal Corpse or Behemoth just for the sake of all the brutality and "satanism." It is NOT just any fan of emo, -core, scene, or pop artists, especially if they do not try at all.

Elitist: Someone who has that superiority complex and believes that they are "true." It can be that one metalhead who thinks they are better than others just because they listen to "true" metal, and dismiss bands even if they are accurately recognized by the Metal Archives, or any metalheads in general who trash on other music just because they're not metal. It is NOT just any Cannibal Corpse, Mayhem, or that one underground funeral blackened deathgrind-doom fan, nor is it someone who dismisses nu-metal or metalcore based on factual reasoning.

Neither terms are mutually exclusive. It is ...more

5 They will often not criticize you if you say that you don't like something they do

The majority of elitists exists on the Internet. In real life, even the worst elitists are rather respectful towards your taste.

Internet: DEATH TO ALL POSERS! DEATH TO ALL EMOS! DEATH TO ALL FALSE METAL! WAGE WAR AGAINST THEM!
Real-life: Eh...not my kind of music, but it's not as bad as I expect.

6 They are not always big fans of extreme metal

Almost every new (debut in the 2010s) metal band people are talking about is technical death metal. Almost. You even had an item "more bands with clean singers" on your list about things that should happen to tne metal community. There was even an item saying "less elitism"

Most of the ones I've seen are black metal elitists

I'm pretty sure even power metal elitists exists

7 Not all of them hate pop music

I always felt like most power metal bands (especially Sabaton and Stratovarius) exist for the sake of satisfying metalheads with something that is close to pop music, but isn't exactly it so that they shouldn't feel ashamed. The same why unblack metal exists (people who want to listen to black metal but care a lot about the lyrics)

8 They don't always love everything underground

I think classic metal elitists exists. eg. Iron Maiden Judas Priest elitists, trashing on underground death metal bands.

9 They are not all alt-right

I love how you all assume their political ideology. For all we know, they might be feminist anti-facist anti-capitalist SJWs. Or they're centrists.

Sucks right? I can’t stand how people nowadays HAVE TO slap a political label on EVERYTHING and a handful of people on this web site are guilty of it.

10 They don't always hate Metallica

I honestly believe that there are more Metallica fans that hate Metallica than elitists themselves

11 It is possible to be both a poser and an elitist
