I'm sure we all remember the 2014 hit known as The Lego Movie, a film that contained stop motion animation and visuals that were 100% LEGO. Now we have a brand new movie from the same company, titled The Lego Batman Movie. This movie is...a film that contains stop motion animation and visuals that are 100% LEGO. Hmm...so if The Lego Movie was a 10/10 movie because of those reasons, what is this movie supposed to be then? Well, I think you already know what I thought about this film.
This weekend, The Lego Batman Movie was released. This film that takes place three years after the events of the 2014 Lego Movie. It focuses on Batman (Will Arnett), who wants to save the city from the Joker's (Zach Galifianakis) hostile takeover, going through the struggle of possibly dropping the "lone vigilante" thing and trying to work with others (and maybe, just maybe, learn to lighten up. Maybe his superhero sidekick/adopted son Robin (Michael Cera) and loyal butler Alfred (Ralph Fiennes) can show him a thing or two). This story was one of the most heartwarming stories I've ever seen in a kids' superhero film. There will be moments throughout this movie where you will be holding your right hand on your heart and silently sympathizing with Batman as you feel the calm beating from your chest. The character department was also surprisingly good in this movie. The set up for Batman's character arc was clever by making both Bruce and Dick orphans so they could relate to one another. I also loved the portrayal of Zach G's Joker in this film since the character looked frightening and had the personalities of a joking clown and a creepy monster blended together into one, which is what the Joker should be portrayed as. (To the writers and costume designers of Suicide Squad: TAKE NOTES!!!!!)
The main thing that I appreciated about this movie, however, was that the company who developed it really seemed to understand young children. Most kids' movies nowadays (Sing, The Secret Life of Pets, Trolls, The Angry Birds Movie, Ratchet and Clank, etc.) feel insulting towards their audiences. Sing was a movie that didn't harm me, but I felt like the movie just put in all of those animals and popular songs just because the movie knew its target demographic was small children (and maybe women who think animals are cute). While Illumination Entertainment is a great company that generally makes harmless films, I believed that Sing was somewhat cheap because the movie was not very amusing and the storyline wasn't engaging. This movie didn't feel cheap at all and it treated its audience like a real audience. If I was a young child who was obsessed with Batman, I would adore this film because not only did it give out great references to the history of Batman, but it also had an excellent storyline and colorful cast of characters. Most movies nowadays need to realize that young kids are smarter than they think, and this movie did.
You will also notice that this movie had LOTS of effort put into it. You can already tell that the animation style is spot on just from the trailers alone. Since I've made some stop motion shorts as a young boy, I know that stop motion is a very tough thing to work with. Making 3 minute long segments perfectly using stop motion is not an easy task in the slightest, and it usually takes multiple hours to combine the audio and slideshow together. So seeing an entire Lego Batman movie that was stop motion was amazing and it clearly took time away from countless animators to make this for your enjoyment. They clearly had comic book fans and researchers in the crew as well because there are multiple references to the Batman comics, movies, and TV shows. There were quotes, costumes, and characters from the source material that were carefully placed into this movie, and it worked really well. While I'm personally not a fan of pandering references in movies, as they tend to make fanboys and fangirls overrate certain movies (Suicide Squad is getting a death stare from me), it worked here because the story and characters had effort put into them to balance it out. I won't go in depth with these references just because I don't want to spoil easter eggs that will make you DC fanboys smile. 😉
Like its predecessor, everything in this movie is quite literally made entirely out of Lego Bricks, from the character model of Clayface to the explosions around the city when the villains attack. This animation style didn't fail to impress me in the first Lego Movie, so it didn't fail here either. Unfortunately, there were some points where the colors would go insane and constantly flash and move around, so I ended up with a headache when I left the theater. Luckily, there are points where the animation will control itself and stay still so you can sink in the moment.
So obviously, you can tell that I was completely blown away by this movie. I even thought that it would be a little stupid because when I saw the trailers, it felt slightly pandering to the youths, but luckily my expectations got blown out of the water and into the sweet, sweet air of the surface. I highly recommend you get your behind out of your chair and rush out to the theater to see this movie. It's got a heartwarming storyline, likeable characters, clever jokes, stunning animation, and easter eggs that comic book fans will geek over. It doesn't matter if you are a Marvel Fan, DC Fan, or random individual who just wants to see good movies because there is a 99.9999999999% chance that you will adore this work of art.
10 -- Flawless Victory (The Lego Batman Movie isn't perfect, since nothing is, but it comes as close as you could get in an animated film. The new movie to beat in its sector, we're talking pure movie ecstasy here.)

That sounds like a good movie, I agree with the fact that most movie companies nowadays don't know what kids really want to see. No wonder those movies did not impress me. - visitor

Admittedly, I didn't see Norm of the North, but I watched Mr. Enter review it, and it looks HORRENDOUS.
Emoji Movie...when I went to the theater, the trailer for that came on, and the theater GROANED. - DCfnaf
GamerMike35, so you aren't interested in this movie, but you are interested in Emoji Movie...? - DCfnaf
I haven't seen the movie, but it looks good. I honestly liked Sing though. That film, Rock Dog, is gonna suck - visitor
It looks odd...eh, I'm not making assumptions. - DCfnaf
I liked Sing too. I reviewed it actually. - DCfnaf
Yeah, that Rock Dog movie looks so dumb and cliche and it looks like it'll be sending a crappy message. - visitor
You might be right because I've never heard of it. - TristGamer
Perfect 10😎 Agreed! This was an all around awesome movie. - visitor
I wasn't expecting this to be as good as it did. - ProPanda
Don't assume. Assuming makes an ass out of u and me. (Get it? ) - DCfnaf
I saw this film with a friend and my mother (because they're both nerdy like me 😄) in February, and I loved it. Honestly, while The Lego Movie is creative and it has a good message, it's too fast and sometimes feels silly, at least for me. I really like this movie because it took the time to develop everything in it. I love Batman, and I'm glad he's gotten another great movie rather than another BvS. Either way, great review all the way. - Elric-san
This movie was hilarious, and I say that as a middle schooler who could not give any less crap about DC. - Absolite
Great review! But did you know this and the lego movie are actually CGI? That's how much effort went into the animation to make it look like stop motion - Phillip873
Good film, but it's clearly advertising lego - visitor
Most movies tend to advertise products, but at least this movie tried to make something of quality. - DCfnaf
This movie was disappointing. I give it a 7/10, it was good but The Lego Movie (2014) is much better. - visitor
Can you do a review on the Ninjago Movie coming out? I want to know if it's any good like the first Lego movie or this one. - Drawbox
That will 100% be the next Movie review, it's just that I've had an awful fever for about a week now, so when that clears up I'll go see it. - DCfnaf
Much better than the Lego ninjago movie - visitor
I give it 9/10-so fast paced that some jokes do not make sense. It is a great movie though - iliekpiez
I didn't like this movie, it was the exact opposite of what batman is, but Opinion respected - B1ueNew
