Top 10 Dragon Ball Characters
I love too many of the characters which made this list very hard to put together. He is the embodiment of all I love about Dragon Ball. One of the most iconic and badass character designs ever. A villain out to rule the earth instead becomes one of its greatest protectors. The battle between god and the devil. Some of the best fights and techniques. By far the most badass moments in the franchise. When he kills both Goku and Raditz or when he hellzones 17, I could go on forever. One thing people forget about Piccolo is how much of a struggle his life has been when compared to the others. Possibly the most cruel life of any dragon ball character.
The man that changed everything. One of the most influential fictional characters of all time and for good reason. He is just such a lovable character since any second with him on screen is either a learning moment for us, or Goku himself. He has been through it all but despite that he is still Goku, just a guy who loves adventure. More importantly he loves a tough opponent to push his limits. The curiosity of goku is what makes him so endearing to me. He has the most heart warming moments where you sit back and just enjoy dragon ball.
Prince of All Saiyans and home to some of z’s greatest moments. He in my opinion is the best written character in dragon ball as his growth seems natural. He will always steal the spotlight time and again with his prideful crusades. I love how tricky he can be in earlier parts of the series and he makes for a perfect rival to Goku. Admittedly there are some moments where I do get frustrated with his character due to his arrogance making him seem almost like a complete fool.
Even after what he has become I can’t help but love his character. All he ever wants in life is for peace and to be a great scholar. Gohan is the ideal protagonist and he is the ultimate underdog you love to root for. It’s not possible to forget moments like Gohan taking on Vegeta alone, or his first ascension to Super Saipan 2. Yeah he becomes a total dork but how else was it supposed happen. He isn’t a natural fighter and that is stated several times. Gohan just fights to protect the people he loves. His relationship with Piccolo is one of the best parts of the series too.
He makes it on the list almost single handily for his dragon ball anime adaptation incarnation. The most hilarious dude that ever lived for sure. All of the best comedy moments are because of Roshi. It also doesn’t hurt that he’s a badass when he wants to be. Jackie Chun was another cool thing he did and do I even have to mention the kamehameha. The uniqueness of his character and how his image has been protected through the years makes him respectable and certainly a favorite.
She defines a strong character without being a fighter. Her usage in the series can be somewhat spotty but when done right she brings an entirely new dynamic. Bulma uses her suprerior intelligence to help Goku and the others and she’s not afraid to be on the front lines. Like Vegeta she does grow naturally as a character. She’s been on many great adventures with Goku.
Truly the ultimate underdog with some of the funniest moments. He’s always in the center of the action taking on the toughest of foes despite his power disadvantage. An interesting point is that both of his major deaths were significant to the plot showing how important of a character he is. His relationship with Goku is so cool to see through the years.
The best villain to appear in Dragon Ball. At the point of his introduction there was no other antagonist that could have worked. Goku had just defeated the emperor of the universe so what could possibly top that. Well how about a monster with the abilities of the greatest fighters the universe has ever seen. In concept cell is built to be the perfect martial artist. His mind games, tricks, and arrogance provide the perfect foil to the likes of Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo, and especially Gohan.
He’s a time traveler who carries a sword. That is super badass. He is in a sense another Gohan who desires only peace but is forced to confront his enemy. His tragic upbringing allows us to understand his more serious demeanor. Trunks is the logical man of the group who only wants to get his job done. His relationship with Vegeta is one of the driving elements of the android arc.
Tien is extremely underrated as a character to me. Yes I can understand he may seem boring to most but his simplicity is charming. He only strives to better himself as a martial artist not to be the strongest. Tien has some great moments like with his kikoho or just his desperate assault against Nappa.
