Yeah he is the smartest Naruto character. He was able to graduate in the academy at only 6 years old. He was only a child but is said to have a mind of a hokage. At 8 years old, he defeated an ANBU with analysis. He wa already a genius from the begining. Him joining the akatsuki was part of his plan in leaking info about the organization the village. Even though he killed his clan, he understood that it was for the sake of the village and his brother. His plans are the best when it comes to analytical and strategical battles. Also, his fight with Sasuke was only to free him of Orochimaru's curse. Also knowing that that will be his last fight. He is a great character, smart, strong and loyal to his village.

Read people's mind and intentions through sheer intelligence (said Kabuto), learned how to counter Nagato's rinnegan's powers in no time (Jiraiya and Kakashi needs more time to comprehends Nagato sharing eyes abilites), grasp the bigger picture of Narutoverse history on his childhood, and lastly Black Zetsu said Itachi is smarter than the end of series Sasuke.

He had a Kage's intelligence and mind at like 10 or something, maybe even less I forgot. You don't see anyone else at that age with that intelligence. I don't even think Shikamaru was that intelligent at that age, but Shikamaru is definitely also a super genius. My vote goes to Itachi for now.

I don't know why people keep saying Itachi is so smart. He failed at keeping the village safe from Pain. He also failed at changing Sasuke. I think having an iq over 200 at the age of 7 is muuuch smarter than having the wisdom of a Hokage at the age of 7, also no Kage in the history of Naruto has had an iq anywhere near 200. Also the Nara Clan is to Superhuman Intelligence as the Uchiha Clan is to Sharingan; it's an ability not a trait. So genetically Shikamaru is waay smarter than Itachi.

Itachi has first place? You have got to be kidding me. Itachi has first place in almost all of the positive catagories because Itachi fanboys. Shikamaru is literally remembered because of his insane intelligence. Itachi is remembered because he's an Uchiha, and that gives him an automatic tragic backstory, amazing good looks, and... ugh.

For his age and limited abilities he is able to conjure strategies in under minutes. He doesn't even let his emotions get in the way of that, in fact his emotions sometimes drive him to make plans that are even more thought out.

Shikamaru is very good at working under pressure. For example, when Shikamaru and asuma sensei where fighting hidan, asuma sensei and shikamaru where doing all the work, while the men in the back where just standing around.

Orochimaru should be number 1. he has many abilities. no fear of anybody. he perfected edo tensei which is the strongest jutsu. he couldn't have been mastered senjutsu but find an alternative way which allows him to use and make people be able to use. he never read a stone or something like that to get close to rikudo sennin. his downfall was always his arrogance to believe that no one can defeat him. he was able to get free from 3rd hokages sealing jutsu which people believe its imposible. he is definitely too smart to be able to reach that level which is far greater than anybody who could reach as much as a regular shinobi who is not uchiha, hyuuga, uzumaki or senju or from any other special clan. lets get real is he use edo tensei seriously and attach someone who can stop him

Obito isn't the smartest person in his team but he's always perceptive and his time with Akatsuki made him seem calculated and cunning. He is well versed in the Uchiha lore and being trained by his ancestor made him a formidable enemy of the shinobi world.

He's clever and used that advantage to manipulate everyone including Madara whom he defied (except Black zetsu who betrayed him). His intelligence maybe on par with Kakashi as he is seen performing surgical feat in Sasuke which requires med skill and a keen tactician.

The freak... Uh he fueled everyone, he was cunning ands slick and used people just like Madara tried to use him, but he defied him in the end. He should be number 2 behind Shikamaru. Itachi may be wise, but come on...not the smartest.

I'm disappointed that he is lower than Sasuke because Kakashi is the one who taught him all about his chidori which is one of his most powerful moves, not only that, but Kakashi is smart enough to know how to use his Sharaingan even when he isn't part of the Uchiha clan. Kakashi has also been taught by the fourth and he is brilliant too, so I don't know how you could put him lower than someone as awful as Sasuke! That is totally backstabbing Kakashi!

Kakashi is incredibly smart, though he doesn't always have the assets to act on it. He was the youngest to ever graduate from the Academy, invented his own jutsu, and has an experienced, methodical fighting style (as evidenced in his fight against Pain, where he used incredible analytical skills to immediately figure out the powers of two of the Pains).

He is the first mentor of team 7, the team who were later called the strongest ninja in their time, passing on the noble thought which he learned in hard way from his friend obito, - In the ninja world those who break rules are scum, but those who abandon their comrades are worse than scum - and he is cool.

Although I hate this guy with a burning passion, he seems very smart.

1. Created the ultimate shape transformation. Earned praise for his exploits with the flying thunder god from the techniques creator himself lord 2nd. Was able to attain kyubi mode right after edo tensei. These does seem like from more of talent. But without unnatural level intellect this would have been impossible.

2. Was very intuitive, observant, and planned strategies in advance. During a fight was able to correctly deduce the mechanism of a technique, it's pros and cons often from limited evidence and use that to his advantage. Which were evident during his fights.

3. During a fight he used to mark opponents in the smallest contacts thus showing his strategic nature. Also placed outhouses in the outskirts of konoha to which he could teleport by will, also proving to be a brilliant move during the nine-tails attack.

An entire team including kakashi fought against a none serious obito, an he didn't figure out how to defeat obito until long into them fighting.
Although minito didn't know every detail on obitos jutsu he worked out how to beat him in seconds once he committed to his fight.
Also created the rasengan, was a hokage, an was considered the child who would save the world be our man J the toad sage.. another intelligent character

The smartest character is the black zetsu. He fooled and used everyone.

Greatest medic ninja of all time who is well known to heal injuries seen as lethal and impossible to cure as well as psychological damage done from genjutsu. She also most likely knows every antidote and concoction known to man. Tsunade created the strength of a hundred seal and technique and her creation rebirth which most likely required many years of research and knowledge of how the human body works. Tsunade runs the village and chooses specific teams to go on specific missions. She created the Medical Ninja system. She's known to be able to tell what a person's ailment is just by looking at them. She has taught Shizune and Sakura, making them the next two greater medical ninjas from Konoha. She's is very quick on picking up on an opponent's fighting style by observing their body and is a master at evasion thanks to her quick learning and thinking as the greatest medical nin in the series.

SASUKE is the smartest, have you seen the latest manga it is awesome! He wants to become hokage! I mean that is the best goal if he wants to restore his clan! Nevertheless make Konoha acknowledge his clan as the kind people they where!

Well, Sasukes goals are great and when he fights he always know how to move and he acknowledges his opponent quickly. All his fights have just been amazing to watch. This due to he really thinks it through before he does anything!

Sasuke is even smarter than Shikamaru. He graduated at the top of his class, recognized as the best student. I think that's enough evidence to show how smart he is!

Sasuke is extremely intelligent because he has fast calculations in battling like when he fought Itachi at their final battle.

Not only is he the creator of so many Jutsu, he is also the creator of Konoha as a functioning society.
He seems to have knowledge of seemingly every jutsu he sees including even jutsu used by the Sage of the Six Paths, and has knowledge of the ninja world (like identifying the toads of Mount Myoboko) or even knowing about the Sage of Six Paths.
Finally he is shown time and time again to develop tactics and strategy on the fly, and to work with others to utilize them.

Tobirama was a very analytical shinobi he set up most of the tactics during the fourth war. He also created majority of the jutsu used throughout the series. Not to mention tobirama was known for making people think he was beat then,he would kill them when they're guard as down

Literally every jutsu that anyone uses is either made of based off a jutsu made by Tobirama. This guy was a prodigy and a genius, even though his "Kill all Uchihas" personality is kinda creepy.

Alright, I'm going to get a lot of hate because of this, but the case I'm making is that Kaguya, even though she is so hated, a boring final villain, and lost as soon as she was on-screen...she was pulling the strings on EVERYONE. I mean, Madara, Pein, ect.

Sasori Isn't even close to one of the smartest characters, but I think it is very cool that he was prepared to fight someone strong and he was very good at fighting under pressure. Although he was only at the begining of shipudun.

Not even close, Obito gained an upperhand and managed to outmanoevre her. She's at a loss against fighting an Uchiha. We were outsmarted by the fact Obito came unprepared and he defeated her easily. The anime made it more dramatic but the result is inevitable.

She is definitely one of the smartest characters in the series. From the beginning of the Akatsuki, she knew perfectly what will happen, but stayed only because of Nagato/Pain. When he died, she immediately left the Akatsuki. But she knew that Tobi/Madara will come and try to get Rinnengan. And then the fight. She knew exactly how and when he is going to attack, and prepared perfect counter- attack. I belive that she maybe would even be able to beat him if she has seen Izanagi and all his techniques before. But she didn't and that killed her. This shows how amazing strategist she is and compared to the others, even number 5 would be underestimating her.

Think he could be a bit higher, the guy has always found ways around issues, he might not be the best at planning but in terms of quick thinking in the moment decision making he can be incredibly pragmatic and come up with plans nobody else would think up. Hence "The number one Ninja at surprising people" title.

Naruto is amazing at making strategies even if he looks like an idiot sometimes. If naruto has all his focus on a fight, he could be as smart as Sasuke and make surprising plan. Also Naruto is full of luckiness so yeah...

Now ill admit it Naruto is pretty stupid cause he just rush and attack, sometimes when he knows the opponent is stronger but in fights he had pretty good tactics.

Naruto is way intelligent that he's made out to be. he has amazing tacts and battle strategies, but he also has one more incredible accomplishment: He keeps on adding to his jutsus and increases them. he figures out ways to do different thing on his own. he may not be smart academically, but he is pretty smart when he thinks. Plus, let's not forget that the academy teachers before iruka must have sabotaged Naruto, because he didn't even know what chakra was. sasuke, you call him smart, but he rarely is smart. he knows only basic abilities whil itachi learne them when he was far younger. and you say the battle with itachi and sasuke... well, sasuke didn't kill itachi, he died because he was ill idiots.
