Top 10 Best Tamil Music Directors

When it comes to Tamil cinema, music is such a huge part of what makes the movies so special. The songs stay with you long after the credits roll, and it's all thanks to the talented music directors who craft those unforgettable soundtracks. But who are the best among them? That's where you come in.

This list is all about celebrating the composers who have given us some of the most memorable music in Tamil film history, from the legends who've been around for decades to the newer artists making waves today.
The Top Ten
Yuvan Shankar Raja Yuvan Shankar Raja is an Indian singer-songwriter, film score and soundtrack composer, and occasional lyricist from Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

Yuvan. The name is enough for his versatility. There may be some musicians who sound better than him musically in songs, but no one in the world can convey emotion the way he does.

Musically too, when it comes to background scores and themes, he just conquers. His music is a part of many people's lives. It is more than just music, something that cannot be expressed.

We do not need to care about his form. Form is temporary. Yuvan is a class musician, composer, singer, and soul-stealer. His songs, even to this date, are enough to listen to for a lifetime and could stand the test of time for a million years.

Giving hits may make someone popular, but only certain things create legends. Yuvan is our legend. Just proud to have him in India.

A. R. Rahman Allah-Rakha Rahman, is an Indian composer, singer-songwriter, music producer, musician and philanthropist.

Is there anything else to say, or is there anyone else who can be compared to him? As a music lover, I've listened to songs from Malay to English to Chinese to Spanish and Arabic. But the variety and the music knowledge of Rahman is incomparable.

Remember when I went to put an audio system in a car at a Chinese shop. After plugging it in, he just took a CD from my shelf and asked who the MD was. I said Tamil film MD A.R. Rahman. He knew A.R. Rahman since from Kadhalan. He said no one can mix tunes like him. What should I say?

The versatility and his thirst to remain out of the box all the time is what this guy has been doing for years. And the magic he sets in you... Is there a way you resurface? He is the one!

Harris Jayaraj

He is a perfect marketer. He understands that music beyond a certain point is all about business. A hit means the producer and all concerned stakeholders are happy at the end of the day. Harris has been a safe bet for big producers by far. He is talented, but when it comes to cinema music, he has devised a niche for himself.

He might have certain black marks for copying, but who doesn't? Despite that, he has given thoroughly massive hit songs since he forayed. Counting among the legends, he already has a place, and veterans like ARR and U1 too are talented. But choosing Harris is for his sound production and quality of sounding. It's ingenious and apart. Trust me, after ARR, Harris has the best sound. Now, Santhosh Narayanan has it too. But still, since I belong to the '90s generation, I pick Harris after ARR.

Anirudh Ravichander

Beautiful, fabulous, amazing, lovely. Each and every word falls short when someone asks me to describe Anirudh's music. His music is my medicine. I have listened to each and every one of his songs and background scores.

I have heard songs by every music director, but I have never found the same magic I get through his music. He has composed so many songs, and I have listened to them all, but I have not found a single one that feels boring to me.

I do not know why I never get bored of hearing the same songs repeatedly, even after so many years. From the movie 3 until now, including Rum, it is very difficult for me to pick a single favorite song by Anirudh because every song made by him is addictive.

Though I am not Tamilian, I am a Malayalee, and I always feel so blessed to hear his music. Wonderful. Rockstar, keep going. Love you always. Forever an Anirudhian. Love from Kerala.

Ilaiyaraaja Ilaiyaraaja is an Indian film composer who works in the South Indian cinema but predominantly in Tamil since the late 1970s.

If anyone says there is a music director in Tamil cinema who is better than Raja sir, God wish him well. Raja is the one and only music composer who elevates the movie with his soulful music, and his background scores speak even if the characters in the movie are silent.

His music is so melodious and soulful that if one is going through an emotional vacuum in life, his songs can bring peace, harmony, and meaning to one's life. He is simply a God-given gift to not only the Tamil film industry but to the whole music world. Raja sir is incomparable. Even 200 years later, people will be able to relate to his musical genius.

G. V. Prakash Kumar

G.V. Prakash sir, I love you so much, you are a painkiller. I am at a loss for words to describe your songs. They are awesome. I loved your acting in the movie 'Darling'. Soon, you will reach the first place in the Top 10.

All the best!

You are amazing!

Everyone says they love A.R. Rahman, Harris Jayaraj, and Anirudh, but I really love G. V. Prakash's music more than the others. If I were a director, I would definitely choose G. V. for my movie. You're the melody king, and I eagerly await more songs from you. I'm truly a fan of yours.

G.V. Prakash's music is really different and interesting. He is my favorite music director. If I get a chance to direct or act in a movie, I will choose G.V. Prakash Kumar as the music director. The one and only melody king. Really, he is the best in Tamil.

D. Imman

He is a very talented singer and composer. The next number 1 music director is Imman. Your songs are very amazing.

D. Imman is the most underrated music director in Tamil cinema. He deserves at least the second position.

Hi,
Imman creates new instruments in music. He is always the best in the Tamil industry. I like your songs.

Devi Sri Prasad

Devi sir, your music is awesome, and no one can give rocking music like you, sir. He gives very good music in both Telugu and Tamil. And I hope you will be the top music director forever.

He consistently delivers the best music for any movie in India and the world. He should be at the top place on this list.

Devi Sri's music is super rocking. I have no more words to express it. I love Devi Sri's music forever.

Vijay Antony

He should have been given a place in the top 3. There is no one who can question his music, and he is also the best music director Tamil cinema has ever seen. His famous hits 'Nakku Mukka' and 'Athichudi' are the best examples.

Vijay Antony should have been given a place in the top 3, but I don't understand how the rankings are given. Nevertheless, he is still a rocking music director who has taken Tamil music to great heights, even internationally. Songs like Nakku Mukka and Athichudi are the best examples.

A very beautiful music director with great music and acting skills. So much respect for Vijay Antony sir.

Santhosh Narayanan

Santhosh should be at the forefront of this rating. Just listen to his new album Cuckoo. It's amazing and brings the feel of Yuvan and the legendary Illayaraja's music.

His music is entirely different from traditional Tamil cinema, on par with international standards.

Just wait for a few more years. Santhosh is going to rock Tamil cinema with his new kind of music. I'm a fan of both U1 and ARR, but Santhosh's music is out-of-the-box thinking.

Hiphop Tamizha

Aadhi is very inspirational and motivational. His songs resonate deeply in everyone's hearts. His interest in both English and Tamil songs is highly appreciated. Aadhi's true life experiences serve as the best teacher. He highlights the importance of struggles and even friendships. I hope to meet you one day, Anna! Love from Dubai, from a seventh grader.

How many of you agree that Hip Hop Aadhi has more male fans, while most of the ladies are fans of Hip Hop Vaisakh? Anyway, they both are brilliant musicians and are two legendary Indian rappers. Appreciating Jeeva Beatz too.

Vidyasagar

He is a master. His music is beyond words.

Love your music. Learned a lot from Super Singer 9.

Sir, your work in Vijay's films offers a different kind of music, and the next film promises multi-level music.

M. S. Viswanathan

He was the trailblazer in the Tamil film industry for music. He gave a new definition for light music and is rightly called Mellisai Mannan, King of light music. He has given the most variety in Tamil film music. Based on which all later compositions came into being. Undoubtedly a trendsetter and king of film music.

Using western classical in Tamil songs which is unique to his compositions, which is also being adopted by A.R. Rahman.

A great musician of India who tried all experiments in music! A man who passed away without any honor from the Indian government. What is in his music that isn't found in other musicians of the world? Nothing would be the correct answer!

Mani Sharma
Deva
S. A. Rajkumar
S. Thaman

He makes just a few films, but he does it better.

M. Ghibran

A good music director with lovely songs.

My most favorite and timeless music director. Enthaaraa...Enthaaraa... is my favorite song.

Srikanth Deva
Sathya
Nivas K. Prasanna
Aadhi
Karthik Raja

Karthik Raja! He is the prince of music. His songs from the movie 'Grahan' are mind-blowing! But our Tamil industry, unfortunately, doesn't give chances to talented people. Caste dominates talent. Karthik Raja is heavenly!

He is also one of the good composers. He can prove his talent at the right time in the future.
