Top 10 New York Giants All Time Draft Busts

The Giants have had plenty of hits in the draft... and plenty of misses. We look back at the 10 worst draft choices in New York Giants history.
The Top Ten
1 Cedric Jones

''In the Giants’ mind, when they drafted Jones with the fifth overall pick, they thought he and Strahan would team up to form a young, lethal tandem of pass rushers. But Jones, who was legally blind in one eye and couldn’t play on the left side of the formation, did not record his first sack until his third year in the league " and he only registered 15 sacks in his five-year career.''

2 Ron Dayne

''The 1999 Heisman Trophy winner and 11th overall pick finished his career with more than 3,700 career rushing yards not the worst stats in the world. But in his four years with the Giants, he never topped 770 yards, averaged 3.5 yards per carry and saw his production drop each year. The Giants had to be kicking themselves that they passed on Shaun Alexander that year.''

3 Jarrod Bunch

''The Giants took Bunch with the last pick of the first round thinking he could complement Rodney Hampton. He was relegated to special teams as a rookie before having a decent sophomore season (501 yards, 4.8 yards per carry). Knee injuries, however, quickly derailed his career, and he was out of football by 1995. Today, he’s an actor who appeared in Django Unchained.”

4 Derek Brown

''Brown was selected with the 14th overall pick. His total stats after three seasons in New York: 11 receptions, 89 yards, no touchdowns.''

5 Joe Don Looney

''Looney with the 12th pick despite the fact that he flunked out of Texas and was kicked off the teams at TCU and Oklahoma " the latter for punching a graduate assistant coach. Looney lasted just 25 days in Giants training camp and racked up a number of fines for violating team rules before he was traded to the Baltimore Colts.''

6 Rocky Thompson

''The Giants spent their first-round pick in the 1971 draft"No. 18 overall"on a running back from tiny West Texas State. Thompson was a sprinter who couldn't ever get his feet under him as a pro. His 177-yard, one-touchdown rookie campaign was Thompson's best with the Giants. Although his rushing stats dwindled drastically, Thompson caught on briefly as a kick returner with 1,768 return yards and two touchdowns. Thompson was so underwhelming in New York that Ed Valentine of Big Blue View ranked him as the Giants' No. 1 draft bust in team history. And it doesn't end there Deadspin ranked him as the seventh-worst player in NFL history.''

Biggest bust for sure!

7 Eldridge Small

Small was the Giants first pick in 1972, and he went on to have only one Interception while not doing anything else in those two years as a wasted project pick.

8 William Joseph

''Joseph completed a full, 16-game season only once, in 2006 his final healthy season as a Giant. At that point, Joseph had already fallen from glory and was no longer considered a starting talent.
Joseph recorded just seven sacks and 17 tackles through four seasons with the Giants, but he did get a Super Bowl ring as a member of the injured reserve in 2007. He finished his career with the Oakland Raiders.''

9 George Adams

Adams was basically playing bench warmer to starter that should be in the hall of fame right now in
Ottis Anderson. George never reached any higher ceiling when Ottis was the heavily reliable back for Parcels.

10 Ereck Flowers Ereck Flowers is an American football offensive guard for the Miami Dolphins of the National Football League.

Big overreached tackle who wasn't a projected top 10 type of talent. ''Reese took another shot and made a reach for Flowers with the No. 9 overall selection in the 2015 draft. That decision has proven to be one of the worst draft picks in Giants history. It’s not all Flowers’ fault, as Reese failed to bring in competition for the position during both the 2016 and 2017 offseasons.'' He does start in games, but man is his blocking so god awful.

Moving to guard was the best thing that ever happened to his career.
