The Contenders: Page 2
Tossing aside the many awkward character moments that seem to be a staple of this anime, the show as a whole suffers from over-hype. Everyone praises this as the definitive amine for slice of life and romance. After watching the show in its entirety, on the idea that it would get better in he next episode or disc, I reached the end and was left with hardly any likeable characters, moments the left me wondering what a rational person would do in that situation, and just a bored sense of wasted time. I felt nothing watching this! And whenever a situation or character moment came along that I could somewhat identify with, they throw in aspects of the supernatural or another sadistic character that gets their kicks from assaulting those around them. Angel Beats did in three episodes, what this anime couldn't do for an entire series.
Sorry but this anime IS vastly overrated. It's no different from other slice of life animes. The only major aspect is the supernatural, which is hardly there and when it is, it's incredibly forced and contrived. There were so many things in this anime that fell flat. First off, the ending. It was a huge cop-out. HUGE. Tricking the viewer into emotional manipulation when it all turned out to be just another illusion? Secondly, the Illusionary World with the girl and the robot. It made no.s ense . at.all . What was the point? All it ever did was foreshadow the stupid deus ex machina that was shoved in at the end. Destroying everything that was valuable to Tomoya and what lessons did he learn from it? Because it had all been erased, nothing! Absolutely nothing. The characters are either one-dimensional or were unfairly pushed aside, just so it could focus on Nagisa's mystery illness, which just got really annoying and really boring and was a complete chore to watch. Nagisa never even ...more
The ending... Just... No... I thought this was supposed to a slice-of-life anime!
Did you really putted that on this list? How stupid are you all really?V 3 Comments
I'm a straight female and I couldn't give any less crap about moe, yet I liked lucky star very much. I really enjoy this anime because it's entertaining and so light hearted. Not all anime has to be soul sucking and have some sort of deep meaning to everything. It was fun and honestly it was like they were my friends or something. I like to rewatch animes like lucky star and k-on when I'm feeling kinda down in my real life. It really does cheer me up in a weird way and bright colors have scientifically been proven to improve mood and help with depression. When I want to watch an anime that doesn't have any drama or give me any emotional baggage I go for lucky star and k-on.
Even though this anime isn't being talked about much nowadays, it's still praised more than it should be since this show is pure moe and filler episodes.
The Haruhi references did make me chuckle a lot, but nothing else had me going for the show. Not even watching the dubbed version makes it more enjoyable.
There's no plot in this show, really! It's just a bunch of schoolgirls talking about random stuff. It's like a generic sitcom. The music in this show is also boring. The only reason people like this show is because of the art-style, which is seemingly fluid to the fanboys, but the rest just seems to be a Copy & Paste approach for most scenes. In my humble opinion, the art is too childish and bright for me. - Sephilin

This show had a really bad storyline. LIKE REALLY BAD. I did kinda like a few of the characters though and I enjoyed having Yui to relate to on a religous aspect.
Dear god this anime makes me want to SCREAM. Everybody I've met that watches this are so annoying. They say that they're really vampires and have emails like: laitoislife. Its not that good.
Just bad anime with douche rapist and disgusting slut, let this crap be forgotten for eternity
The fans always feel the need to shove this show down everyone's throats and it gets really annoying. I'm not sure how good the show itself is because the fanbase has really turned me off... - jatboy
If you upvote this you probably like SAO and Fairy Tail, maybe even YOI. - izayaorihara
Voted this because of the fanbase. The anime itself is really good, but people need to stop throwing around the memes so much when there are so many other great things about it. The art and voice acting is amazing, it has some of the most creative fights in all of shounen, and don't even get me started on Steel Ball Run (sadly a long way from being adapted...). Yet all of that is overshadowed by a couple of neck beards screaming IS THAT A JOJO REFERENCE1111111! and the fact that a good ~25% of the fanfiction is yaoi trash.
I can understand why people say it's overrated. If the card game is not your thing, you won't like the show, is that simple. I don't think I'm the only fan who says "it's so bad it's good". Kaiba is just badass (that "screw the rules I have money" attitude). Joey is very funny and a good duelist as well (you gotta love the underdog). And the pharaoh... well, let's just say "the heart of the cards" leads him to victory every single time (*cough*cheater*cough*). As for the bad guys, Pegasus and Yami Bakura were the only good villains. Yami Marik could have been good if his duel with the pharaoh wasn't so full of made up cards with ridiculous effects. Noah and Dartz were filler and Jieg was a failure.
After Duel Monsters everything went downhill (the show and the card game). GX is so-so. Zane was cool, but the impossible ways Jaden got away from a sure loss ruined the show. 5D's has Yusei, a stick in the mud who's not likeable at all. Xezal has ...more
The original is pretty good. Best villains and (obviously) most original.
GX had the worst plot, but the duels were fantastic.
5ds was amazing in the first half, but then turned into filler madness.
Zexal had a horrendous first half, the second half was alright. Best animation by far.
Arc-V is easily my favorite. The plot is golden. The animation is cringe worthy at times, though.
Story way too much basic and poor developed.
It seems like a ripoff of Pokémon.V 3 Comments
Dude, it's just as overrated as Attack on Titan and Sword Art Online these days. Now I love both Attack on Titan and Sword Art Online, but I can't stop them from being considered overrated. Tokyo Ghoul becomes too edgy and strays off from the original manga content in Season 2. Studio Pierrot is a good studio, but it should not try to give Tokyo Ghoul the Naruto treatment.
It's definitely overrated. I love this series a lot, but I'll admit it has some huge flaws (inconsistency characters, EXTREMELY BAD character development, skipping major plot points, pacing of the story went from slow to extremely fast by the end of the first season, and so on), and I can definitely see how it's overrated and I can also see why people hate it.
Only problem is the second season strays off too much from the original manga content.
Sorry Tia-Harribel, but Tokyo Ghoul is overrated as hell. Watch Parasyte if you think Tokyo Ghoul is better.V 3 Comments
Now that I look back on the English dub songs, they were pretty annoying to begin with.
Oh god, I thought Fairy Tale and DBZ were bad. But this, this is "show's" existence is a natural disaster.
No, just... No. I don't even want to discuss this.
Boku No Pico is better than this - And I'm saying that as a straight guy.V 3 Comments
It's only popular because they normalized a gay couple when there are so many other animes that has already done that
Overrated because of the yaoi maybe or whatever it's lot more credited than it deserves..
Even my sister, a fan of the show, agrees it didn't deserve most of the awards it got from the Crunchyroll anime awards. Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju and My Hero Acadermia were far better series, but everyone had watched YOI and voted it for everything! Even best ED theme! NOBODY REMEMBERS THE YOI ED THEME! It's not bad, I liked it when I watched it, but the fans are toxic and overrate it to hell and back! (And this is just subjective, but the opening theme annoys me and I always skipped it.) - izayaorihara
I think the original Powerpuff Girls was better.
For once in my life, I think the original cartoon was better than the anime series. I like anime better than American cartoons, but this is only one case where cartoons are better than anime. PPGZ just has more overly sexualized versions of the Powerpuff Girls. Japan could have done better. Even The Asterisk War and Chivalry of A Failed Knight are better (to be honest, those two anime series are actually pretty good if you can withstand the cliches).
Don't watch this. Watch The Asterisk War or Chivalry of A Failed Knight instead. Those anime series actually have plots (and by plot, I mean not fan service, but actual plot).
I am praying reverently for Godzilla to stomp on them and squash them. And given they're in Japan, I'd say that had a high likelihood.
This show was disgusting.
Yikes this has a fanbase?
Worst anime in the history of animes
This anime was hot but would've been better as HentaiV 1 Comment
Its tooo funny not to love
This is the one anime that everyone new to anime knows and just loves more than anything in the world...
This anime is supposed to be a parody of reverse harem series, this was my first anime, and it's what got me into watching anime
Dry humour, mary-sue main character. Need I say more?
It made me feel awkward on some parts, and made me question myself on why I was watching this (and then I found out that I was watching it for Hikaru).V 2 Comments
It is frigging everywhere.
Why is this even on the list? One of the best animes I've watched and definitely not overrated.
The fan art... *faints and dies*
Seriously, I see this everywhere
Several friends recommended me to watch this serie. I'm not feeling it. The story and characters are nothing I haven't seen before. Poor motives and mostly uncreative. It's not completely unwatchable. It does have some entertaining aspects like the music and animation. Ultimately I want more depth in my anime.
Overrated?! More like underrated! I don't hear anybody talking about the series as much as the others on this list. Sure it has its flaws, but I don't really mind them as much. This is definitely, AND I MEAN DEFINITELY, a better love story than Twilight!
How is this overrated?
Some people think it's an anime, but it's NOT
Can someone redirect this to western animations, please? - Thifer20
That not even a anime
It's NOT AN ANIME
Sorry guys, but this series is not better than the main anime: true, the main anime has a protagonist that never really makes progress, but Red is not that much better than Ash as a character; most of the battles he wins he has to always fall back on his Charizard because he apparently never learned to actually properly train any of his other Pokemon, which doesn't reflect good on him as a trainer. Not to mention how Origins also falls into the main anime's pratfalls of ignoring type matchups for plot convenience (which is even less forgiveable for Origins to do, since it's supposed to be a more faithful adaptation of the games). Yet, everyone praises Origins as the greatest thing ever since sliced bread just because it isn't the main anime and plays off of nostalgia. The only things that Origins really has going for it is the incredibly fluid animation and the beautiful art. But that's it. In every other front it's about as on-par with the main anime. Maybe even worse.
It's funny how people actually think this is a great epic but don't actually realise it fails on every single fundamental of storytelling
Why was the main series ahead of this? Let's go over the facts that fans of this anime say shall we? Accomplishing more in 4 episodes than ash in 800+ episodes. AW HECK NAW!
It's a breath of fresh air for the pokemon universe. - shawnmccaul22V 5 Comments
