Top 10 Overrated Mario Games

This game may have been the first 3D Mario kart game and was a platform for all the newer Mario kart games but it is still overrated. People love this game so much because of nostalgia but their nostalgia blinds them from realizing how the game isn't as great as they actually think. The mechanics are so much better in MKDD and MKDS and the tracks are really not that great either, except for maybe Bowser castle and DK jungle parkway. Rainbow road especially is a terrible track, I don't understand why people love it so much when it's just so boring and long (it can take 6 mins to complete and it's not even fun) and even yoshi valley is pretty overrated too. The music is also better in most other MK games and the single player mode sucks and is better in every Mario kart game, even super circuit. Overall MK64 is not a bad game and is really fun to play multiplayer but I believe it gets so much more praise than it deserves and there are better Mario kart games out there, such as double dash and Mario kart DS.

Everyone says this is the best Mario game ever and say it has no flaws while they criticize Sunshine and Galaxy because they think the controls are terrible and the cameras are horrible. The reason why people think this is the best Mario game ever because it was revolutionary and nostalgic. I played most of the other 3D Mario games first and I got 3D All Stars just to play this game because everyone says it's the best Mario game of all time and I really did not enjoy the game that much. The game is good but I constantly got frustrated because the controls and camera constantly caused me to lose a life and have to go all the way back to where I was. Also there is no story and Mario just jumps into painting into bland and boring areas. Also when you go into a mission the game gives you no clues on what to do and just drops you into the world. I had to look at a gameplay for mostly every star cause really how was I suppose to know landing on those tiny platforms in the pyramid and collecting five random coins is going to give you a star? Please respect my opinion and if you love this game please continue loving it.

As a huge Mario Kart fan I really liked this game however it deserved the top 3:
The graphics were disappointing, filled with bugs and flat.
The tracks were cool but that's it, even the Rainbow Road is just ok, the retro tracks were much more uninteresting than the original ones, the roster was cheap.

This game is mainly liked for nostalgia.

Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time is much better. And Rainbow Road actually sounds like it belongs in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time due to how phenomenal it is, just like the game Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time is (especially its unique, mature, reminiscent-to-MOA presentation).

How people can say that is game is overrated is beyond me. This game was perfect, Super Mario World binned all the great ideas of this game and just ported a sequel to the SNES that couldn't even match to this one. That game should be classed as the overrated one because SMB3 had better level design, maps with more variety, more levels, more challenging bosses, you were able to store items, it had the Airship levels that were much more unique than the same old castle levels you got in Mario World, it had Mushroom houses and Card games, the items were way interesting than the stupid cape in Mario World. The reason people claim Mario 3 to be the much more superior game was because it had way better ideas than Mario World. The only thing I can give Mario World a plus for was Yoshi, but in all honestly he really just made the difficulty of the game laughable. - BorisStingy

I love both Mario Galaxy games so much but the first game is more overrated. Some Super Mario Galaxy 1 fans hate on this game because it's too similar to the first game, the story is boring and gets rid of Rosalina for most of the game. I do agree that the story is uninteresting compared to the first game but since it's a sequel it's supposed to be similar. This game has 242 stars instead of 121. The after game content in the first game is lame because all you do is play the exact same game as Luigi but in Super Mario Galaxy 2 you go on the search for green stars which are stars that are hidden in the galaxies. Since a lot of people including myself love this game I can understand if people find this game overrated but I think it deserves the praise.

This game isn't bad, but it was a letdown, considering it was somewhat of a downgrade from Wii. The roster is the worst part of this game. It's missing characters like Diddy Kong, Birdo, and before Deluxe, Dry Bones, King Boo, and Bowser Jr, just to make space for the Koopalings, the metal variants, and the babies from Mario Kart Wii, plus with an added Baby Rosalina on top of the crappy sundae. It also feels a bit restrictive compared to Wii. It's still a good game, but I find it to be one of the weaker Mario Karts.

In my opinion, the most overrated as it doesn't even deserve praise. Everyone goes on about how amazing this game is and then proceed to hate the modern entries because they're not like 2

Why is Mario Party 9, ahead of this? This is the REASON the car is hated in the first place.

Yes, but we think Mario Party 9 should be way higher because I got thumbs down for saying that the original N64 trilogy of Mario Party games was great and that the Mario Party games in the 2010s were bad in general. - The Ultimate Daredevil

You shouldn't hate a game because of Rosalina " she appear in everything" yeah, she does! Why? She's popular and she is a new character! Nobody seemed to care when Yoshi started appearing in everything!

This whole top 10 most overrated Mario games list is funny and total BS because Ironically only all the best Mario games are here! The only games that belong on this list are EVERY SINGLE Mario PARTY GAME! 9 Probably the worst..

It's only overrated in the sense that people love it over the sequel despite the improvements it made, but otherwise it deserves all praise it's got as it really is one of the best mario games..

Love this game! I hate when people say it's overrated and shove some "cool" and "underrated" Mario game down our throats. I love all Mario games, so I also like that other one that is seen this way (I see this a lot with Super Paper Mario). Anyway, this is my favorite Mario game ever, but others can have their own opinions. HOWEVER, this game deserves its high rating for everything that is done so well. Therefore, I GUESS you could call it overrated, but if anything, more Mario fans NEED to be exposed to the Mario RPG's as a whole, since they should be more loved and known as much as the main games. If you hate me for loving this game, just know that I love the other games too and respect others' opinions, but I don't want to be told that this game doesn't deserve its high rating or that it's nothing compared to Super Paper Mario or the original Paper Mario or whatever, since everyone's entitled to have an opinion and love every game.

But they are not the most underrated video game of all time. However, there are way too much modernists and I have a right to prefer Classic Mario over Modern Mario for reasons. Super Mario World is extremely fun and has a very sharp 16-bit presentation, but the only thing that makes Super Mario World more overrated is the anti-feminism (only because Princess Peach defenselessly gets kidnapped and Mario is overly pressured to rescue her ass, but hey! She sneaks to give Mario power-ups! )! I give Super Mario World a 9/10.

This game is awful! Peach gets kidnapped, we have to listen her her voice (I think people prefer that voice over Jen Taylor's voice), very intense game if going for all Star Coins, CGI (I am not that big a fan of CGI), overrated for sure, not even at least 5 crossover characters, etc...

Not nearly as good as the oldies. It's too easy, the story sucks and it's on the most overrated console ever, the Wii. More overrated than Galaxy 2 because at least Galaxy 2 is a game and not a toy...

this game isn't awful. Nintendo having only Mario being the only character in single player mode was a bad idea. they should've given you an option to choose to play as someone else. this is the reason I hate the new Super Mario bros. series. I would rather play 3d world instead of this. I like how can you choose your character in 3D world, but I don't like that you have to be Mario in this game. that's why I don't play this game. and I also don't like playing as Mario. I like playing as Luigi more.

This game is awful. Like all Mario bros game the useless peach gets captured by bowzer's son again. Terrible storyline, awful characters as usual and the bad cast Mario, toads and peach could've took Luigi, but no this game sucks! It's a 1/5 1/10 from me. Sonic's the actual hero. Amy rose is more cute and useful than Peach.

This game is mostly underrated. So many people trash on this game because of the camera yet love Super Mario 64. Also people complain that it's "too hard" yet hate on the New Super Mario Bros series for being "too easy".

This is underrated compared to other Mario Kart games. It's also my favourie Mario Kart due to soundtrack and courses.

What's so special about Mario Kart 7?! The educational Mario games deserve to be on here as well!

This game is basically... a fanservice Luigi game, my least favourite of all the Mario & Luigi games. Is it overrated? Sort of.

I like this game. It's not quite as good as Superstar Saga or Bowser's Inside Story but it's still really great.

This game is underrated. Sure it gets more respect than Paper Jam and Partners Time but it's still underrated

The music was OK. Not all that great. People love wii for: mushroom gorge, coconut mall, maple treeway, grumble volcano, moonview highway, and rainbow road. The only good soundtrack was grumble volcano. All the rest can go wither away forever. Let's not forget funky - flame runner either.

This game sucks! I prefer zero gravity, which things actually changed. Sonic racing games in my opinion are way better. Same controls as zg, but again bad characters.

You could get hate for preferring Classic Mario over Modern Mario. Modern Mario Party games are no exception.

It's both, it's overrated because people love the level design and so on, but it's also overhated because people hate it for not being an open-world game like Sunshine or Galaxy

This games not that good as a 3D platformer. Little substinance behind each level. Very inferior to its predecessors. It woulda been better as a 2D platformer

But the comment section of Top 6 Worst Mario Games in a nutshell is "How dare you put Paper Mario: Sticker Star on that list! ". Paper Mario: Sticker Star was awesome compared to the educational Mario games, but it is one of the most disappointing Nintendo games of all time. PhantomStrider is allowed to have Super Mario RPG as one of his favourite Mario games of all time and Paper Mario: Sticker Star as his most hated video game of all time. The Super Mario games released in the late 20th Century always deserved much more praise than most of the Mario games released in the 2010s.

Should be MUCH higher. It's not bad at all, but compared to Mario Galaxy, this is just underwhelming. Nothing new is added here, the soundtrack is kinda weak, the bosses are lame, and the story is lacking.
