Top Ten Most Overhated Anime of All Time

The Top Ten
1 Naruto Naruto is an anime and manga franchise Naruto, created by Masashi Kishimoto. The manga was later adapted into a television anime, which was produced by Studio Pierrot and Aniplex. It premiered across Japan on the terrestrial TV Tokyo and other TX Network stations on October 3, 2002. The first series lasted 220 episodes, while Naruto: Shippuden, a sequel to the original series, has been airing since February 15, 2007. In addition to the anime series, Studio Pierrot has developed eleven movies and several original video animations. Other types of merchandise include light novels, video games, and trading cards developed by several companies.

I think the main reason this show gets hate is mainly because of the amount of fillers it has. Well just because there are too much fillers and back flashes doesn't mean you have to judge it even though you never watched it yet. How about instead of being an annoying hater, just don't watch it if you known your not going to like it okay. End of story.

Battle shonens in general have a bad rep in the anime scene, but Naruto has the worst, I never watched the anime nor read the manga, but after looking it up, seems like it had depth and a lot of heart, however its bashed quite a lot for its flaws (power creep, etc), you are entitled to dislike what you perceive to be bad writing but it doesn't make a story irredemeable garbage.

You guys better not hate on Naruto, it is literally one of the top 10 anime to watch, this was what I grew up watching, you mess with Naruto you mess with me.DATTEBAYO!

2 Neon Genesis Evangelion Neon Genesis Evangelion, commonly referred to as Evangelion or Eva, is a Japanese animated television series produced by Gainax and Tatsunoko Production, and directed by Hideaki Anno.
3 Kill la Kill Kill la Kill is an anime television series produced by Trigger. In Kill la Kill, Ryuko Matoi transfers to a new high school in order to find her father's murderer.

I think the only reason this show is getting hated on is because of the cancerous fanbase. Yes I do admit I can be crazy at times and they wear skimpy outfits, but I honestly think kill la kill is an awesome anime show, with great action, an interesting plot and story, awesome characters and an epic soundtrack. Its actually an awesome anime, if you well skip the fanservice...

4 Puella Magi Madoka Magica Puella Magi Madoka Magica is a 2011 Japanese anime television series produced by Shaft and Aniplex, directed by Akiyuki Shinbo, written by Gen Urobuchi, music by Yuki Kajiura, opening sang by ClariS, ending by Kalafina (sometimes by the seiyuus) and original characters by Ume Aoki.

This maybe a popular magical girl anime, but actually it does get some hate online and some of the hate really annoys me to be honest, especially those dumb comparison lists comparing this anime to unrelated stuff. I respect your opinion if you don't like this anime, but in my opinion, this is my favourite magical girl anime and I recommend it better than sailor moon, but that's just my opinion. It maybe look all cute and adorable, but is actually dark and edgy, but it's a great anime, with one of the best love stories ever, complex and developed characters, a gripping story and its very emotional, sad but wonderful at the same time.

5 Sword Art Online Sword Art Online is a series of Japanese light novels written by Reki Kawahara and illustrated by abec. In 2012, it received an anime adaptation produced by A-1 Pictures and the SAO Project, and is directed by Tomohiko Ito . The first season is divided into two arcs known as "Aincrad" and "Fairy Dance". It has also received a second season, titled Sword Art Online II.

I will never understand why people feel the need to shove their hatred as much as possible every time SAO gets mentioned to the point where it's even forbidden to talk about it? Seriously, that does not make anybody cool or intelligent but society somehow thinks otherwise.
Now, I understand that SAO is not perfect and there are better Anime out there and even I got a little disappointed. But that does not mean that it deserves to be treated like it's something evil!
I really like this Anime, yet I'm having a hard time even looking at it. Why?

If you're in 2018 and you're still hating Sword Art Online, for the love of God, grow up. The anime is still popular for legitimate reasons and honestly, I feel that with Ordinal Scale and the upcoming Alicization adaptation, the franchise is actually getting better. I'm not forcing anyone to like this show, but really, does it deserve to be treated like the second coming of Satan? Honestly, it seems a lot more people hating on this are just jumping on the hate bandwagon and being a bunch of edgy 13-year old try-hards who thinks hating a certain anime is cool.

The most overhated anime ever and one with the most annoying haters ever. Yes its overrated and yes it has a lot of flaws, such as plot holes, some bland characters and Sugou Nobuki is such a disgusting pervert, who needs to die and get eaten by hyenas, especially that part when he kissed Asuna. "shudders". But other than that, Sword art online is a great anime in my opinion, with beautiful animation, a wonderful soundtrack, an interesting concept and plot and the awesome and complex relationship between Kirito and Asuna. If you don't like this anime, I respect your opinion, but the hate needs to peace down a bit no offense.

The series has gotten unjustified hate. It was never the worst anime ever made, nor it was the best anime ever made. It's a perfectly fine, perfectly enjoyable anime with amazing soundtrack, great animation and a great story (at least, in Season 3).

And yeah, SAO haters are just some of the most annoying people I've met over the internet. Maybe you should stop being edgy kids on the keyboard hating on the series simply because 'its cool to hate SAO' and grow up.

6 Attack on Titan Attack on Titan, also known as Shingeki no Kyojin in Japanese, created by Hajime Isayama, is one of the most popular Japanese anime series to be released. It was first watched in Japan during 2013 and was dubbed in English to be watched in America in 2014. It is best known for its emotional moments, apocalyptic setting, and its dramatic story line, and action packed scenes.

Attack on titan I do admit is overrated, has too much dialogue and pacing and it can be repetitive at times but overall, its an awesome anime to watch. Lots of action and I just had a blast watching it. can't wait for season 2!

Attack on Titan is one of the best anime out there, it may be an acquired taste but Season 3 is out so don't hate. Sasageyo!

And I thought Naruto was overhated...

10 Tokyo Ghoul Tokyo Ghoul is a Japanese dark fantasy manga series written and illustrated by Sui Ishida. It was serialized in Shueisha's seinen manga magazine Weekly Young Jump between September 2011 and September 2014, and it has been collected in fourteen tankōbon volumes as of August 2014.

Tokyo ghoul may have too much censorship and some inconsistences and it does have a lot of gore and violence, but I still think Tokyo Ghoul is awesome and one of the most beautiful and saddest anime I ever watched. But the manga was epic and even better than the anime, but still the anime is great in my opinion.

There may be a lot of things Tokyo Ghoul could've done better, that's for sure...more episodes would have been appreciated!

The Contenders
11 Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Mobile Suit Gundam SEED is a Japanese mecha anime television series that premiered in 2002. Part of the larger Gundam franchise, the show focuses on a future where Earth and space colonies are in conflict, exploring themes of war and human evolution. It has been praised for its intricate plot, complex characters, and thought-provoking themes. Mobile Suit Gundam SEED enjoys a large fan following and has spawned multiple sequels and spin-offs.

I think the SEED gundam anime sequels are the most overhated in the franchise in my opinion. I thought this anime was great as well as the sequel. Sure the story was kind of pretty confusing, but overall very different from the rest of the gundam franchise.

12 Dragon Ball GT Dragon Ball GT is a Japanese anime series based on Akira Toriyama's Dragon Ball manga. Produced by Toei Animation, the series premiered in Japan on Fuji TV on February 7, 1996, spanning 64 episodes until its end on November 19, 1997.

Honestly I think this is the weakest out of all of the dragon ball series, but I think I am one of the few who actually enjoyed this anime. Sure it has flaws, but I enjoyed it unlike most other people. I don't know why, I just enjoyed this, and it's better than dragon ball super(Which is basically just for fanservice). So despite it being the weakest in the franchise, it's the most overhated dragon ball series in my opinion.

I agree. GT is nowhere as bad as many fans say it is. It has flaws, what series doesn't. Also, SSJ 4 is awesome.

Its just the fanbase that is bad, other than that it is fine

Only bad in comparison to its predecessors, but as a standalone story is not thaaat bad

13 Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS
14 One Piece One Piece is a manga franchise created by Eiichiro Oda. The manga has been adapted into an original video animation (OVA) produced by Production I.G in 1998, and an anime series produced by Toei Animation, which began broadcasting in Japan in 1999 and has aired 851 episodes to date.

It annoying with it's graphics and how idiotic some characters

15 Akame ga Kill Akame ga Kill! (アカメが斬る!, Akame ga Kiru! is a manga published in Gangan Joker authored by Takahiro and Tashiro Tetsuya. It received an anime adaptation that premiered on July 6, 2014 and ended on December 14, 2014.

Akame ga kill has a lot of flaws I do agree and yes, it has too much shock factor, characters die too quickly and too much gory violence but I actually really enjoyed this anime a lot from thrilling action, interesting heroes and villains and of course, epic soundtrack.

16 Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny is an anime television series, a direct sequel to Mobile Suit Gundam SEED by Sunrise and the overall tenth installment in the Gundam franchise. It retains most of the staff from Gundam SEED, including Director Mitsuo Fukuda.

The most overhated gundam series in the franchise in my opinion. I honestly think it's a great anime! It does have its flaws, but I think it's a great sequel to an already good anime. Also its pretty awesome that it tackles dark subjects such as war, racism, and homosexuality in such an amazing way, I feel like no other anime has toppled before and I just had a blast watching this anime and it's my favourite gundam anime in my opinion.

17 Sonic X Sonic X is a Japanese anime television series created by TMS Entertainment and based on the Sonic the Hedgehog video game series published by Sega.

People who accuse this series of being pedophilic or exploitative rather then respecting it for being the amazing dark fantasy it is make me mad.

20 Love Live! Sunshine!! Love Live! Sunshine!! is a Japanese multimedia project co-developed by ASCII Media Works' Dengeki G's Magazine, music label Lantis, and animation studio Sunrise.

Too boring and predictable. LLSIP is much better than LLS, and that's that on that.

23 Boku No Pico Boku no Pico is an anime series of three OVA episodes created by Katsuhiko Takayama. It was released to DVD on September 17, 2006.

Pretty sure any self-respecting Otaku knows about Boku no Pico, and that it is super bad, disgusting and disgraceful... still haven't met someone who likes this show, hell it probably should be referred to as Hentai more than Anime.

Sorry but who added this? This anime actually does deserve the hate it gets, no offense. Because its anime porn and a disgrace to anime that's what.

Boku no pico is best left forgotten and buried under a plethora of already forgotten anime.

Sorry, but it deserves the hate.

24 Higurashi When They Cry
25 Love Live! School Idol Project Love Live! School Idol Project is a Japanese multimedia project co-developed by ASCII Media Works' Dengeki G's Magazine, music label Lantis, and animation studio Sunrise.
