1 Elsie the Cow

A balloon based on some cartoon cow that acted as the mascot of some milk brand from the late 20th century that I had absolutely no idea about prior to researching this item. Anyways, this first debuted in 1963.

2 Linus the Lionhearted

A balloon based on the titular character Linus the Lionhearted that was both a cereal mascot and one that got his own show. Don't know much about it, but his balloon first debuted in 1964.

3 Underdog Underdog is an American animated television series that debuted October 3, 1964, on the NBC network under the primary sponsorship of General Mills, and continued in syndication until 1973 (although production of new episodes ceased in 1967), for a run of 124 episodes.

A balloon based on the titular protagonist Underdog from the animated series of the same name. Again, don't know much about him, but his balloon first debuted in 1965.

4 Smokey Bear

"Remember... Only YOU can prevent forest fires." And what better way than to promote and have fun with it with Smokey Bear's first balloon? Said balloon would first make its debut in 1966.

5 Superman (2nd Version) Superman is a comic character. And probably the first powerful superhero in the fictional world. The character was created by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster, high school students living in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1933. It was published by DC comics. The first animated superhero movie was superman. The origin story of Superman relates that he was born Kal-El on the planet Krypton, before being rocketed to Earth as an infant by his scientist father Jor-El, moments before Krypton's destruction. The Man of Steel seems to have returned from his untimely redesign into a football player back from 1941! So Superman's second incarnation of his balloon first debuted in 1966.

6 Aviator Snoopy

This is just the first of two Snoopy balloons introduced in the late 1960's. Here, we have a balloon based on Snoopy's aviator persona. It first debuted in 1968.

7 Astronaut Snoopy

And here, we have the second of two Snoopy balloons introduced in the late 1960's. This one is based on Snoopy's astronaut persona, which was made as a tribute to Apollo 11. This balloon first debuted in 1969.

8 Smile (Happy Face)

Sadly, only three new balloons were introduced in the 1970's of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. The Smile balloon was one of those three balloons. It first debuted in 1972.

9 Mickey Mouse (2nd Version) Mickey Mouse is a funny animal cartoon character and the official mascot of The Walt Disney Company. He was created by Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks at the Walt Disney Studios in 1928. The first cartoon featuring Mickey Mouse was the iconic "Steamboat Willie" released in the year 1928.

Seems like Donald Duck wasn't the only Disney character to get a balloon update. Mickey Mouse got one as well! It first debuted in 1972.

10 Kermit the Frog Kermit the Frog is a Muppet character and Jim Henson's most well-known creation. Introduced in 1955, Kermit is the straight man protagonist of numerous Muppet productions, most notably Sesame Street and The Muppet Show, as well as in movies, specials, and public service announcements through the years.

Finally, a new 1970's balloon that is based on an existing character from a franchise that isn't an update. So here, we have Kermit the Frog. His balloon first made its debut in 1977.
